I’m sure it pained Randy Boyd that Tennessee committed to a stadium on campus. I don’t think we should ever play a non exhibition game at a Smokies stadium. We have our own. Let alone against a team like TTU. Also curious, did Randy Boyd profit from this game?

Randy probably can't burn it down fast enough now.

The place was packed, the fans loved it.

Boyd is awesome President and strong supporter of UT athletics. Smokies received gate $ but assume paid UT a portion of normal proceeds for mid week game.

i can assure you that the exposure UT received (and new fans that got to see their first UT game) was worth far more to UT than the proceeds Boyd Sports LLC made from this game. He and his wife have donated millions to UT and he’s brought much needed stability and leadership to UT. You won’t find a stronger supporter of UT athletics than the Boyd family.

I don’t see a problem doing it once a year. Plus, it’s a neutral site for RPI😄

There are quite a few schools who play the same neutral site games with rivals or close-in-proximity opponents every year.

Lmao. We have our own ball park. And a notably long win streak in it. FOH thinking Randy Boyd and the smokies are doing us a favor by letting us play there. Lmaoo
Guess you missed my point about giving UT fans a chance to see Vols baseball that didn’t get to previously (see the 8K seat stadium for no more than $10). Not unusual to play in neutral sites vs instate teams. No favors granted; mutually benefical for both parties.

I for one thought it was a good idea. Had we not been number one in the country and lost, many would agree. Had we won the game, many would agree. Exposure to our devoted fans East of Knoxville is a great opportunity. From the Tri-cities to Newfound gap…I like this idea every year and support it.

This game was not beneficial to the Vols. Lol

The smokies ball park is 20 minutes from Lindsey Nelson

You must drive really fast. Great for growing the fan base. LNS seats 4300; Smokies was sold out and standing room only with a record crowd of over 8300. Not sure how that’s not beneficial for UT.

Ask people in Newport and Dandridge if it makes a difference bringing their kids. That’s without traffic by the way. The point being we always go West with our neutral ballgames. It’s nice to go East for once (similar to the battle at Bristol).

Because we had empty seats at Lindsey Nelson and we lost. You really cannot argue any tangible benefit from tonight’s game.

Lmao, I hope we tapped into that elusive Dandridge market tonight

I have a friend in the Tri-Cities, and he halfway joked that he should have gone. I got the feeling that 20-30 minutes East seemed to make a difference. People attended tonight who would normally not attend games. 1 game out of 25 non-conference games is nothing.
