smart fan base(not)

No you don't understand the analogy at all. Donors are the board of directors, fans are the shareholders. The board has a vote & so do the fans. The fan vote is attending the games. If the fans desert the team entirely you bet your sweet a** the donors & administration will jump straight in the air and do whatever is necessary to bring the consumer back. Don't kid yourself. Without a fan base (consumer or shareholder) the program won't exist. The donors (board) can't fund the entire deal on their own.

Back to what I originally said. I do believe CDD will succeed. However, don't doubt for one second that if the fan base bailed UT would be forced to react in a major way including opening the bank even for an initial loss.

UT is a state institution, not a corporation. I seriously doubt the Board of Trustees is going to open the vault to hire a football coach. The athletic department sustains itself. When you look out at that lower level, the fans and donors are mostly the same people. Also don't discount the effects of the economy on attendance. There are empty seats at a lot more venues than Neyland Stadium. For the most part, however, if you win they will come. Those are called "fair-weather" fans.

my 20 years in knoxville taught me one thing, while loyal,
vol fans are not very smart. putting up with fulmer who consistently underachieved and cost us at least 2 other national championships was stupid. fans were satisfied with 9-3 or 10-2 seasons.vol football had the potential
to be a dynasty like the u.now vol fans will settle for
mediocrity.they will continue to fill neyland stadium while we are a horrible football team led by average coaches and a horrible ad. prepare for 10 years of sucking and we will never hire an elite coach unless you the fan base demands it. the way you demand it is by boycotting the games and emptying neyland stadium.until they fire hamilton and hire a saban like coach vol fans will not even sniff a bcs bowl game or sec championship.i for one will be amused watching 100000 FANS fill neyland to watch a 3-9 team.these next 2 years will be the worst in ut history.yeah i know i'm a negavol but ai prefer realistic to negavol

You arent a negavol..... you arent a VOL at all. troll.

Love your typing, as well. How old are you??? Twelve I would guess.

You made my point for me. If you win they will come. If mediocrity calls for fans to stay away they will absolutely open the bank. $=big coach=wins=more$. Loosing=less$....if fans ban together & bail = no $. Again, don't get me wrong. I think CDD is like buying apple stock in 1982. He will be woth every penny & then some. Don't doubt that he will get big time $ when his contract is up.

From everything I've gathered since Dooleys hire, he is the closest thing there is to Saban. Good one, pal.

PS one more thing. UT isn't a corp but don't get things mixed up. The fball program is self sustaining not state run. It is absolutely a business.

jjnegavol...give this staff a chance! geeze.....I live in LSU tiger country, and the folks here are very dissappointed CDD left La Th for the vols.....they wanted him at LSU next year when the mad hatter is fired in Baton Rouge, because they know he was Saban's best recruiter and one of Sabans best position coaches. He learned from Saban and will steer the Tenn program in the right direction just as Saban has done at Al....The 3 and 4 star players he recruits will play better/harder than Fulmers 4 and 5 star players....if the ball bounces evenly, Tenn will be 8-4 this year and a top 5 program in a year or 2.

The football program isn't a business in the traditional sense. It would be nearly impossible for them to go bankrupt, and the majority of the money they earn is guaranteed because of membership in the SEC or willingly donated to them.

Seriously, we could draw 20k people and still make an absolute killing... We'd just have to cut down on the quarter of a billion dollar expansions.

Way too broad to simply refer to the AD as a business.

I like the fact that we are supposed to take advice on multi-million dollar business deals and coaching hires from an individual who cannot figure out how those darn proper sentences and paragraphs work.

That's not very smart. You don't save the village by burning it down.

You should have had your mommy proof-read this before you submitted it.

we go to the stadium because we are vol fans. To honor those (past and present) that chose UT over any other college. We may not be fans of individuals, or of a coaching staff, but we can surely all come together on a Saturday and support Vols even if they don't win a game.... Most of you are like me and remember walking into Neyland for the first time as a kid. I don't remember who we were playing or whether or not we won the game. what I do remember is the size of the stadium and the sound of 100,000 fans. I can only hope that the kids that go to Neyland for the first time this year have a similar experience.

In all seriousness, I wish I could have bottled-up the feeling I had as a kid, the first time I walked into Neyland. As adults we tend to forget that feeling. Even as a kid, I knew I was hangin' out on a Saturday with 100,000 members of my family. GO VOLS!!!

jjvol, you are only perpetuating your own stereotype about Vol fans when you start threads such as this.

Has anyone translated this? I may as well be trying to decipher the Dead Sea Scrolls.
