Its called investing in yourself. Successful companies look long term and will take a short term loss for long term gains. Again, I think CDD will succeed but don't discount the power of the consumer in company decisions.

I fully understand the thought process of a company. But, the fact is, the shareholders in this case are the donors who have a vested interest in seeing the program succeed. Emptying the stadium is not the answer. The stadium needs to be full to attract recruits. They do like to see the support. If the product on the field is not satisfactory, then like the shareholders, the donors will have the final say.

No matter if the won-lost record is satisfactory, fans need to support. That is the only way it will turn around.

Could be. That would make more sense had he started another paragraph.

hm. there's a blank line between the two bodies of text; I've always figured on a message board that a break like that's the closest one gets to a new paragraph....is it something else here?

oh wait, I see what you mean now. I just saw his response to what you said. He must have answered while I was typing my last post

I'd to post a reply for this one :)

1. If the seats are empty in Neyland Stadium. You will never be able to hire a big name coach, or even recruit a player with a half a star next to his name.

2. Hiring a Saban is not always going to win a Championship. I know Florida is our rivals and every Vols fan can't stand to hear the name Urban, but did a Vol ever know he existed before he went to Florida.

3. And I know a lot of people on the forum is getting tired of hearing the word "Heritage" come up. I'm a poor southern country boy that works his but off to make a penny. If I had a chance to see a real game at Neyland you better bet I'll be there watching the Vols play. Doesn't matter if they go a season without a win. To be able to see the players enter the stadium. To see them run through the T. To hear the Vol fans scream Rocky Top to top of their lungs.

GO BIG ORANGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my 20 years in knoxville taught me one thing, while loyal,
vol fans are not very smart. putting up with fulmer who consistently underachieved and cost us at least 2 other national championships was stupid. fans were satisfied with 9-3 or 10-2 seasons.vol football had the potential
to be a dynasty like the u.now vol fans will settle for
mediocrity.they will continue to fill neyland stadium while we are a horrible football team led by average coaches and a horrible ad. prepare for 10 years of sucking and we will never hire an elite coach unless you the fan base demands it. the way you demand it is by boycotting the games and emptying neyland stadium.until they fire hamilton and hire a saban like coach vol fans will not even sniff a bcs bowl game or sec championship.i for one will be amused watching 100000 FANS fill neyland to watch a 3-9 team.these next 2 years will be the worst in ut history.yeah i know i'm a negavol but ai prefer realistic to negavol
This post is rahtarded.

Dude i hate to break it to you, but Tennessee football doesn't exist for your entertainment. It is much bigger than that.

What is that supposed to mean? If your favorite restaurant starts serving bad food, you'll quit going until it improves. That's the same as Tennessee Football. Both are businesses, and the bottom line is all that matters. It's not the most difficult concept to grasp.

Miami had some pretty good teams with not very many people at the stadium, just saying.

No, I am many years removed from UT. But your question appears rhetorical. Not like an actual question.

OK; I will stop playing games with you. I do not see any reason why we could not have gotten a Saban/Meyer/Stoops type coach to come to UTK after we fired Fulmer. Whether that be in 2005 or 2008. We have the facilities, fan base, recruiting base, and money to compete with anyone. We settled on Kiffin because he seemed to be the golden boy with an all-star staff.

The timing of Kiffin’s departure made this coaching search a complete cluster-f___ and IMO not an accurate representation of the attractiveness of the job.

No you don't understand the analogy at all. Donors are the board of directors, fans are the shareholders. The board has a vote & so do the fans. The fan vote is attending the games. If the fans desert the team entirely you bet your sweet a** the donors & administration will jump straight in the air and do whatever is necessary to bring the consumer back. Don't kid yourself. Without a fan base (consumer or shareholder) the program won't exist. The donors (board) can't fund the entire deal on their own.

Back to what I originally said. I do believe CDD will succeed. However, don't doubt for one second that if the fan base bailed UT would be forced to react in a major way including opening the bank even for an initial loss.

After Bama lost to Miss St. at home under Shula there was a message sent to higher ups, not so much by lack of attendance in numbers, but in the certain sections of the stadium that were not as full as normal. Sections that the more affluent Alums set in. That sent a message. Sure you want to support the kids wearing those jersey's but you are also concerned about the direction of the team you are so passionate about. Its kind of a double edged sword.

I too did not like the Kiffin hire. I also agree that the timing of his departure made this search difficult. When I first heard the name Derek Dooley, I thought they had lost their minds. One thing is for sure. As Vol fans, we better all hope he is successful. At one point in their careers, I am sure people questioned the hiring of all the above named coaches.
