Slive's just drawing more attention to the lousy officiating in his league.

There's no benefit to making this letter public.

Commissioner Slive,

You have successfully produced a letter that "mean(s) nothing" as per Coach Kiffin's guideline. I'm sure next time you will really throw the book at him.

Good For You!

Truly Yours,
AbeFroman

"I also remind you that this is your second public reprimand in your brief tenure as Tennessee’s Head Football Coach and on both occasions you were wrong about the applicable rules."

Damn.... that letter is pretty embarassing.

We need to start a "Go to hell, Mike Slive" cheer at the stadium tomorrow night and keep it up.

The "means nothing" comment from Kiffin really bruised Slive's ego.

It's clear that Kiffin's not impressed or intimidated by the almighty and magnificent commish. Slive can't handle it.

does Slime and the SEC have the authority to suspend and/or fine a coach in the league and if so what by-law gives him that authority... Just wondering

You are asking a question and that is what Lane was doing after the Alabama game. Slive and Obama will not like you with an attitude like that.

Slive’s reprimand to Kiffin now public
October 30th, 2009 5:20 pm
Posted By: MrSEC.com

This letter of reprimand from SEC Commissioner Mike Slive to Tennessee’s Lane Kiffin was obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request by Jimmy Hyams, sports radio host in Knoxville.

Dear Coach Kiffin:

This is with regard to your post-game statements concerning the officiating in the Tennessee at Alabama football game played in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on October 24th, 2009.

The actions and statements constitute public criticism of officials, contrary to the provisions of Bylaw 10.5.4 of the Southeastern Conference Manual, which reads, “coaches, players and support personnel shall refrain from all public criticism of officials.” It is your responsibility as a coach to comply with the policies of the Southeastern Conference and to know the football playing rules.

As a result of your comments, I’m sending you this letter of reprimand. This reprimand will be made public.

Since it is clear from your public comments that you believe this letter “mean(s) nothing”, let me be equally as clear to you. The next time you, or a member of your staff, make public comments of this nature, you will be suspended from all coaching duties for one or more games, and the institution may be subjected to a substantial fine. I also remind you that this is your second public reprimand in your brief tenure as Tennessee’s Head Football Coach and on both occasions you were wrong about the applicable rules.

Sincerely,

Michael Slive

Sounds like an eight grade bully and looks like Homer Simpson's boss!!! What a dork. The first time he suspends a coach will be the last time he does it! The National media is all over his rear end on this, now with this letter he really looks like a fool!

When officiating is bad, and the coaches call them on it in public, I say it adds to the credibility of the game. Slive wants the coaches to pretend in public that everything is OK, but it's not, and everyone (even FL and Bama) know it. I know what the rule says, but can anybody here tell me what the harm is in telling the truth?

BTW, I loved the suggestion in another post saying CLK should express extreme sarcasm in the post game interview.

Petrino Letter

Because of a technicality of the Truth in Advertising Law, the SEC office and Mike Slive were forced to re-issue the reprimand to Bobby Petrino late today. Here is the updated reprimand:

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Oct. 22, 2009) – Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike Slive has issued a public reprimand to University of Arkansas head football coach Bobby Petrino for his team's performance last Saturday in Gainesville.

"Coach Petrino has violated the Southeastern Conference Code of Business," Slive said. "SEC Bylaw 10.5.4 clearly states that opposing coaches, players and support personnel shall refrain from all attempts to prohibit Florida's participation in the SEC Championship Game.”

Coach can't make comments about the officials in public but Slimeball can make this public? WOW! If I were Kiffen I would start making comments about Slive until he makes another rule.

he doesn't sound like a bully to me. He sounds like the Pres of the chess club who somehow became student council president and now wants revenge on the jocks that gave him wedgies.

$20 says they find Slive stuffed in a locker crying next week

Since it is not a penalty to throw your helmet with a live ball on the field, then the whole UT team should take off their helmets after the first UT score on USC tomorrow night and throw them on the ground.

LOL! I might crap my pants if they did this.

Come on, YOU and I, have BOTH seen better.
That is some steamy example of female pulchritude by any definition. If one removed the garments that were defiled by the bammer emblem my position would be reinforced. :p
