If JG were an accurate and timely passer, we too could wreck defenses with slants to the slot (Z) receiver. Hyatt has truly world class speed, Velus has plenty, Beckwith is super quick and a monster at 6ft5, we have the athletes (finally) to compete with anyone...we just don't have a QB who can get them the ball, sadly.
As you saw yesterday, OCs scheme to get those slot WR in 1on1 matchups against safeties and sometimes even LBs...which is an obvious advantage for 2 reasons. First, the slot WR already knows where he is going, while the defender has to react, and 2nd, the slot WR is often the quickest or shiftiest player available matched up against safeties who have to be able to stop the run as well, and therefore are bigger and a little slower on average. Hopefully next season, we have a QB who can actually deliver an accurate ball on time...like pretty much every other SEC school always has...and Chaney can use some of the great athletes WE have to dominate opposing defenses.
We have more pure speed at WR right now than we have had in more than a decade. Hyatt is laser timed 4.31 in the 40. World class speed. Holladay is 4.38. There isn't a safety in the SEC that quick. Both are freshmen. The future is QUICK at WR.
