slades comments on govols

Slades comments piss me off to be honest. He think we are all unable to do his job when there is really nothing to coaching D backs. I think he is mentally retarded... Did he see craft in the second half? He threw deep what once? Twice? ANY???. I think I could have seriously coached our Dbacks better. Not to mention, our DBs are super fast, no one should burn them deep. Third we ran zone the majority of the game, the people pressing up in zone (if they do at all) are not responsible for the deep ball. Why don't we just run 2 man under, our dbacks really dissapointed at stopping the short stuff imo and slade better get his s*** in line. (Freak don't get mad at me, this is my first time back since Monday and I am still fuming.)

Slade said he'd face criticism if UT's defensive backs played press coverage and were then beat deep.

"I guess we'd be standing here talking about something else," Slade said to a group of reporters.

It is possible that he may be standing there talking about a UT win.

>"I think sometimes they think they're playing a game," Slade said of the players in his secondary. "Sometimes they're going to play up on them sometimes and off of them sometimes."<

can someone translate this, sometime?

If they don't have the discipline to follow instructions, then that is coaching. Someone needs to either get in their face or sit them on the bench. And if it is as capricious and as random as Slade makes it out to be, are you telling me that they coincidentally choose to play off the receivers at the same time? Seems like if it was just a random thing where guys were freelancing, there would be times where one back on one side of the field would be playing in the WR grill while on the otherside, they would be backpeddling. Or, you would see them at least play press a few times and then go back to that soft coverage.

Bascially, coaching let us down.

i didn't like the "their longest pass was only 21 yards" comment either because THEY WON THE GAME -- who cares how long their longest pass was?

They drove it down our throats twice by passing the ball short and beat us.

Slade's comments are just making it worse. He would have been criticised if he had them play press and get beat? Give me a a break.

He/they played off and UCLA took advantage. At least admit it.

That statement is definitely false. I am gonna guess you have never actually played football, to make that assumption? There is a TON of coaching involved in producing even average DB's.

He should have just said:

"I'm damned if I do, damned if I don't. They throw a bomb and score, I'll get blamed for playing tight coverage. So, we played the percentages. He couldn't hit water throwing in a pool the first half. We sat back and waited for him to screw up and Chow made damn good calls and he didn't screw up."

I would have been okay with a statement like that.

Patently false.

"They're not there," Slade said of fan criticism. "Obviously, (they) don't quite understand it, don't understand what all goes into it so I let that kind of roll off of me.

Slade said he'd face criticism if UT's defensive backs played press coverage and were then beat deep.

That is the biggest load of bs I have heard. No sir you would not face the same criticism if they got beat deep. To me that would at least mean you tried to adjust to what UCLA's offense was doing. Also I would take my chances playing my CB's in press coverage when they have a inexperienced QB who had already thrown 4 INT's in the first half, and also not to mention we have one of the best safety tandems in the nation. MAKE THEM beat you deep! I never saw them beat us deep one time, so why not play press until they do?!?!?!?! Slade needs to get a clue, stop being so stubborn and making excuses. Chavis should have been all over that situation and made the proper adjustments. No excuse. Same crap as last year.

their longest pass was only 21 yards? So what, they got that when they were in 3rd and long. There was no way that those WR's were going to beat our secondary deep. We played off just enough for them to complete passes for first down after first down.

Not to mention their second string tight end. How many balls did that sucker catch, anyway? I kept waiting for some kind of adustment but never saw any. He was totally uncovered on his TD catch.

It happens when you're a coach. You're a genius if it works, an idiot if it doesn't. The problem is the refusal to adjust. If something's not working, change.

Clawson should have done it as well.

I can assure you that genius and Slade will NEVER be used in the same sentence.

"We're going to do our thing. I promise you we will be better."

Yep, you guys have been doing your thing for a long time now, with mediocre results. Keep on doing it.

AND I WAS ABOUT 2 FEET AWAY FROM THE TV THE WHOLE GAME CUSSING. i done so much cussing that i have to go to church sunday

That's not a hard promise to make considering we couldn't be much worse.

In fairness to Slade, a few years ago
when we didn't have much to work
with, UT set scholl records in pass
break ups in successive years.

I'm happy we've built up talent and numbers
in the defensive backfield and are more
into interceptions than breakups.

As for M. Johnson, he started the first
7 games last year before he suffered
an injury.

His hs coach said he was the most
fluid cover corner he had coached
in 30 years.

One of the top WRs in the NFL, Randy
Moss I think, possibly someone else,
said; "DBs come in two varieties,
those who try to jam you off your
route and those who shadow your
moves, the latter are the ones you
have to worry about the most and
are the hardest to get separation
from, those who try to knock you off
your route are the easiest to get
separation from and make the big
plays"

So u agree with the coverage our defense was playin in the 4th quarter?

I start at bandit... DB is really not that hard, most of the work is done by the player. There is nothing groundbreaking about playing or coaching DB. What I mean by this is it is not that complex. Sure its harder than I stated but most of being a DB is reaction time & that is only coachable to an extent. Plaing 10 yards off a WR is coachable, and he screwed up.
