I thought I remembered hearing some time during the season either on the radio or on here that Slade is stepping down because of health problems? Anyone know anything?

You need to add a ? after "step down" in the thread title because I thought this was a breaking story.

It's been a rumor floating around for awhile.

I've heard it from more than one person "in the know"

Same rumor was floating around last year and nothing ever came of it.

i hope this one good defensive game didn't save him. If it did, he needs to slip Eric Berry half of his paycheck.

i throw my pennies in the wishing well today and hope he never steps on the football field as a TN db coach again. I AM SICK OF HIM

If there are health problems, let's lighten up on the guy.

Second, what a great chance to bring in new blood. Maybe Chief will hire a future replacement?

It seems to float around every year, but this was the first time I've heard Caldwell was getting the ax too.

Probably all rumors with nothing substantial behind it.

Last I heard it was raises and extensions all around....why make changes? Everything in vol land is in perfect harmony. Funny thing is "the experts" say a 10th win would be big for the program but I haven't heard what a 5th loss would do.....

I say we fire Slade, hire Orgeron, and do some shifting of coaches and their responsibilities. Orgeron would do wonders with recruiting and he's great at getting his players fired up. He did a great job at USC and I think it would help us out in recruiting and coaching.

Just finished the book about Coach O and have to agree. He may not be HC material but put him on recruiting and DL and it would improve.

I don't see any way Orgeron goes from being a head coach to being a DBs coach. Defensive Coordinator, sure....

Maybe he would take a position if he gets the title assistant coach (can you do that?).

Well, UGA made Rodney Garner an assistant coach. Since we have about 5 team captains on any given week, we may as well have 3-4 assistant coaches on the staff as well. Heck, I don't see any problem with giving him title. What's the worse that could happen?

he could rip his shirt off and try to fight your players?

If we beat Wisconsin, there wont be a single change on the staff...just my guess.

I have to agree if we do manage to beat wisconsin. Hamilton will talk about 10 wins as if we won the national title. We definitely need to shake things up on the defensive side of the ball. At least get someone better to coach secondary than larry slade. Maybe shakeup the d-line too. Dan brooks had a great rep as a d-line coach but these last two years have given me doubts about that. I'am not against a whole new defensive staff but there is fat chance of that.

Slade needs to go, should have been cut three or four years ago, must have somethig on Fulmer and/or Chavis.

Berry is good in spite of him, not because of him. He will try to make Berry ordinary by the time he grads, so lets not give him the chance.

here's my beef with this argument. Slade has been questioned in the past, but you can't fault him for losing players to expulsion and inky going down last year. He then went through more injuries at the start of this year. Berry, a true freshmen had to step in and learn on the fly. Then they had to bring Vinson to the secondary and teach him everything during the season. I know he was a db in HS, but he was a receiver in all his practices at UT. The secondary improved on a weekly basis. How much can we truly fault Slade based on this year alone?

Its a vicious process...He's paid for a job that he didnt really do successfully this year...game over

coach or not. He has truly seen more than his share of injuries recently.

But no matter who is at fault, it is borderline unforgiveable :realmad:that our db lines up almost 10 yards off the receiver the SECCG in our goal line defense. I wanted to kick a hole in my TV on that play. :yikes:
