Six years... $42 million...

Let it play out. UT just went on record saying if you’re good enough we’ll pay you to come.

I guarantee agents are talking to their clients right now.

Just let it play out. We will get a coach with that kind of bait in the water. Don’t beileve the tripe in the media. Good coaches could care less.

And once we land a coach... FIRE THAT ASS HOLE JOHN CURRIE!!!!!

That is what I'm thinking, that agents are talking to their clients... also that Currie needs to be fired as soon as a coach is hired.

Chris Petersen, Les Miles, Kevin Sumlin, Jim Tressel, Jimbo Fisher, Gary Patterson

Tressel is out of football for 7 years now. He’s the university president at Youngstown State...you can take him off the list....along with Petersen, Fisher and Patterson. None of them would consider coaching at Tennessee, I don’t care how much we offered.

Petersen is not going to leave UW to step into this instability and work for Currie and Haslam.
I understand wanting to shoot for the top guys, but I also don’t want to spend the next week being publicly rejected.
if we raise every coach's salary to 10 million, we can bankrupt a few of these schools from being able to pay players

I’m really disappointed, but am I the only person that’s at least a little encouraged after today? They offered a coach $7 million per year. They’ve proven they’re willing to open the checkbooks. Maybe we still have hope.

Yes, offering a good coach $7 million is letting us see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. Now perhaps, some other good coaches will be having their agents give us a call. Also, there are some interesting games coming up this weekend and we will see who the pretenders are - might find our coach there. We shall see. Chins up guys, Go Vols!

We offered Schiano $6.5 million/year for 4 years and Gundy $7 million. We should just raise the price half a million a day until some MFer raises his hand.

Ok I’ll knock 2M off that and come in now for say 3M a year for 5 years. But I expect you *****es to help me out and get me fired after year two for a rock bottom 3M buyout. 👍

Never guna happen. Haslam wont allow it

Hopefully, with Haslam's woes in federal court and the current protests going on with people emailing, tweeting, and calling the UT President's office... it may be that Haslam won't too much to say about the goings on of the UTAD. Also consider the fines he has been paying out through Pilot Flying J. Added to that, the NFL is considering punitive action regarding the Pilot Flying J fraud. Even more... is his Cleveland Browns franchise making money? I mean, I wouldn't pay a dime to watch a game on the lake unless I particularly liked their opponent... or if the Vols were playing a bowl game there, of course!

Which coaches would be worth our Search Team offering a 6-year, $42 million contract to be our next head football coach? It has been reported that Mike Gundy just turned it down, so I'm just wondering who you all consider would seriously be worth that kind of contract... that might possibly actually take us up on the offer?

I think Mike Leach would be a savvy hire for you guys. He won't give a damn what Jimmy Haslam says or wants. The current turmoil around the football program won't faze him. The "You're not John Gruden!" backlash from a decent portion of the fan base won't bother him. He's significantly improved the last two places he has worked and there is no question that it is one hell of a lot easier to recruit at Rockytop than it is Texas Tech and Wash St. And he has never worked at a school that can back him with the kind of resources UT can.

It won't happen but that doesn't change that fact it makes a lot of sense. Plus he can probably be had for a lot less that $7M/yr.

I would bet that only Miles would take the job. And he is a maybe.

There was a tweet out earlier that he reached out yesterday evening to UTAD to express interest.

I can see both sides of hiring him. I think he could stabilize us. I see no way he gets us to ATL consistently tho.

This is like losing at the casino and doubling down each time to recoup your losses.

I'm willing to bet OSU will be giving him a huge raise this week. They may have even matched our offer. If so then we would have been insane to go higher. Gundy is not worth Saban money.

Nope. They said they aren’t even going to offer a raise, said they gave him one last year. They didn’t counter.

Yep Grundy got himself a raise

No, he didn’t. I think that was his angle but he was required in writing to let his AD know he was speaking to another school. They called his bluff.

“We feel that Coach Gundy is our long-term coach, but I don't think that Oklahoma State is equipped to get into a bidding war with a program like Tennessee. I do feel that we need to do the best that we can to provide Coach Gundy with what he needs to be successful and feel good that this is not all about salary.” “Our sources all confirmed that Gundy was less than excited about the response.“-247

Nothing against Gundy I like him and I would have been ok with him if he said yes.

But if your gonna offer 7-8 mil a year. Go get Petersen from Washington. He only makes 4.5 and has a 1.5 mil buyout!

Highly unlikely that Tennessee ever formally offered Gundy. And even less likely that they offered $7+mil. This was meant to look like UT tried to get a name...now we wait for the real (lesser known) name.

Not sure why there's so much Kevin Sumlin interest. He's been on a steady downward trend for years and just got fired by another in conference school.

Go after Sumlin for $42 million! Proven winner in the SEC. bring the chief with him. Honestly, idc how much they offer a coach. I just want a coach!! Hell, Butch could recruit with a mediocre offense. Bring someone in with an exciting offense and players will want to play here. The coach name doesn’t have to be big.
