Six weeks into the 2018 campaign, just under halfway through the season:

--> Of the 65 Power Five conference teams, 8 remain undefeated (Bama, UGa, Ohio St, Clemson, ND, W. Virginia, Colorado, NC State).
--> We have played two of those eight. And have the third coming up in two weeks.
--> SEC has by far the strongest P5 conference resume, with an 87% win rate in OOC games. Next closest is the B12 at 75%.
--> The SEC East leads the SEC West, 3 games to 1.

There's no hidden message here. This isn't commentary on our team, JG vs KC, CJP, Helton, Fulmer, Neyland, Mullen, Butch, Behr, Charger, IknoxvolI, Freak, or anything else sneaky. It's just a few observations on the broader picture as we get to the halfway point.

Go Vols!

Agreed on all fronts.

We need talent. That talent needs to fit the system the current coaching staff if putting into play. That is when we will win again.

Even with a crappy system that CBJ ran, a great talented athletic QB won games because he practically did it himself. That is what we need to get back to a 9-4 type team at a minimum. Then up from there. GBO!

Be interesting to watch the East-West battle for next few years. Of Course Bama will hold the top spot but the rise of UGA, Mullen's switch, Hugh Freeze out etc.. may see the East take the overall lead again.

Why you put me beside Iknoxvol? Cold brother, just cold.

Great post. Think about the schedule for us this year. Ranked opponents: WV, UF, Bama, UGA, UK and SC may be ranked when we play them. Thats half of our schedule. Three of those are top 10 teams. And Pruitt is trying his best with a roster built for the MAC in the SEC.

We need much better talent in the worst way. The only way to fix this is through recruiting. And that takes time. I am hopeful that Pruitt can fix it.

Auburn will still be ranked also.

I think we have talent, but we need bodies on the OL and more disruptive edge rushers. We need to gameplan to our talent. Give Chandler the ball between 15 and 20 times and Jennings at least 5-10 times. Whether it is screens, reverses, runs, slants, it doesn't matter get the ball in their hands and block downfield. That is what is missing on O. On D, we aren't getting the pass rush, but I am hoping they are turning a corner. The Auburn game will have a lot of short passes, screens, etc.., so lets see if our LBs can make some plays.

Whats frustrating about it is, we actually don’t know if JG is helping or hindering the offense right now. And we won’t know until we have all the pieces around him. I’m all about giving the kid the reins, but I just don’t think he is confident enough or quick enough with his decision making. He is definitely being limited for whatever reason.

Yeah, it's usually the above average QB, like Dobbs, who get's pointed out who lifts his average/below average team to higher levels, but to make the point more, look at what Tua's doing at Bama. They've always "out toughed" everyone, along with game manager qb's...now this guy comes on board, and I'm not sure they wouldn't beat a few teams on Sunday. A stellar QB could get us out of this mess a whole lot quicker, but just don't think that guy is on our team...of course it's hard to tell, given JG doesn't get any protection.

This. JG has a good arm, but plays behind mediocre lineman. I thought JG would make a bigger impact this year. He’s either taking baby steps in getting better or he’s just not that well rounded of a quarterback.

You really should think about getting into coaching, pay is good for someone with your skills.

Two of those teams, NC State and WV, had their game cancelled because of the hurricane.
