Sirius radio is great

Picked up a cheap unit along with a friend. We split the cost of a year on two radios.

Man, love this thing. I went the budget route, installed everything myself in 15 minutes with a clip mount. Fine with me. Sounds is good. The music is great.

Music I like is not on the radio much. Now, every time I hop in the car, I'm sure to find some hippie jambands playing. There's also a 24/7 Dead station that just plays random shows. Freaking awesome.

If you've ever thought about picking up a sat. radio, it's pretty darn cool. Get to listen online for free with your subscription as well.

I've been an XM subscriber for about 3 years and I just got a car with a free 12 month Sirius subscription so for the time being I've got both. As cheap as it is, I don't know why everybody doesn't get it.

I believe it's the Federal Trade Commission but I could be wrong. There are some competition issues since it in effect would create a monopoly.

I've heard XM a bit. I would imagine it's cool as well. I mainly went Sirius because of the Dead station and the jambands station.

I should have probably gotten this earlier. I used to host a radio show and it was pretty darn similar to jambands station.

For what it's worth, one of the salesmen at Circuit City had told me last week that the merger would be complete by January 2008. But it was a sales guy in the audio dept., so take it with a grain of salt.

I did notice that Sirius had a nice portable player that could hold 2GB of music, also. If they ever come up with a portable player that can hold 30GB or more... I'm all in.

The niche music is probably a little better on Sirius while XM has better original programming and they have SEC/ACC sports along with MLB. On the other hand, Sirius has NASCAR and Stern, so it's really just a matter of what you want to hear. Both services are pretty good IMO.

Be sure to check out Maxim Radio (108). The Covino and Rich show is always pretty entertaining as is the Stretch show.

You can find Stretch from 10-2 and C&R from 3-7 on weekdays.

There is an independent radio station here in Palm Springs that plays almost all music I like... and much of it is so random!

Is it anything extra to hear SEC games on XM or is all of that included with the subscription price?

Will do. Thanks for the tip. Road trip next week. I'll get a chance to check out a lot of the channels.

i love my XM. got it solely for baseball, you don't get much Oakland A action on this side of the Mississippi. It's also fun to listen to Uecker and Scully call games. Getting the SEC is just a bonus. Even found myself listening in to the Master's this year while I was making the trip to Norfolk.

When I got my car last week I searched through the Sirius channels looking for Maxim just to see what the heck you had been talking about.

For a few minutes . . . I'm not even sure what I was listening to. Having 400 satellite channels available in your car is a little overwhelming.

I really liked the variety of music and talk radio/sports, but i went through 3 radios in about 2 years, the damn things would invariably short out if they got too warm. The cheapest one i had (xact something or other) worked great, it was probably my favorite, and an idiot at work sat on it. Stupid ass.

I've had XM for 3 years now and love it. I was glad when they picked up the SEC and I can listen to the Vol Network. The main difference between the 2 cos. is that XM has spent a considerable amount of $'s on R & D, while Sirius has spent more $'s on programming (Stern). prefer Opie & Anthony (XM 202) to Stern. Waiting to see what hppens when the 2 merge.

I disagree. I have about an hour commute each way, and often times I can make it all the way to work without a single commercial. When they do finally run them, they are 5 min. blocks or so, and I agree that's aggravating.

But my radio has a pause function, much like TIVO. If I'm out of the car for a few minutes or get on the phone, I can pause it, then fast forward through commercials when the do come.
