So you think Bob Kesling, the voice of the Vols, who routinely goes on radio programs to discuss Vol athletics and who does a 1 minute spot every morning on whats happening with our Volunteer athletic teams, DOESNT promote the athletic department/programs? Lol. Okie dokie buddy.
First off its Bob Kesling. Second I do not know who is Clemsons commentator is but that is mostly because I am not a Clemson fan and have never seen their coaches show.
In my OP I could have stated that I think Bob should go because he sucks at his job and I think most would agree with me. I didnt think I would get many responses on that and there were threads above about Pruitt firing off the field personnel.
I think when we moved to Nike it was a great change. The Adidas unis were some of the ugliest in college football.
To address your statement on tradition you cherry picked Georgia. I dont thing UGA is a good example as they have such a decided advantage over almost everyone else. You are the only major program(GT is not a major program) in a state that produces top 4 talent every year.
So how is that tradition working out for Notre Dame, GT, Minnesota, Nebraska(might change because they hired an all star coach)? As for Clemson their only tradition was that National Championship Danny Ford bought.
Good catch on the typo guy. Doesn't mean much coming from someone thinking CJP should fire him because he is not cool enough for recruits or that the major issue with down programs is that their uniforms are not cool enough.
Haha!! I noticed you had nothing to say about all the teams I mentioned with tradition
I also take what you say with a grain of salt as you have a pic of Fulmer(the guy who started TNs slide into irrelevance) as your avatar.
My guess is our differences of opinion goes back to a generational gap. Based on your prior statements I am guessing you are pretty old.

Agree. Dont get the dislike for him, hes a good dude. Hes not as talented and appointment radio like John Ward was, but hes a good, professional, genuinely nice man whos a Vol through and through. And he deserves our respect imo.
Radio isn't as important as it once was. In the mid 60s, your team (my team - Tennessee) would be lucky to have 1 game televised. For those not in the stadium, you had one recourse - radio. People would have the game on everywhere - in cars, out dove hunting, in the boat fishing. John Ward was a radio guy doing radio - not a TV guy doing radio. BIG DIFFERENCE. Radio guys have to paint as much of a picture to the "blind" in order to tell the story. I listened to an interview with John Ward once. He said the important things were down and distance, and time on the clock. We take if for granted watching it on TV, it's right there all the time.
I'm not bashing Kesling here, because honestly, I don't really listen much. At times, I seem lost on down and distance, but the good stuff comes from Tim Priest, and I like that aspect.
For the same reasons radio was important back in the day, the coaches shows were just as important. By Sunday afternoon, there wasn't a playback of the game, so you had to watch the coaches show to see if what John Ward said really happened. First and maybe only chance you had to watch the game.
It's different now.
How about Bob Kesling? The coaches show is utterly unwatchable. Has Bob ever asked a hardball question? There is no real information that comes from that show. We could get beat say 41 - 0 and the dialogue would go something like this. Bob Well things didn't go like you were hoping for coach Butch We have to show better leadership
Disagree. Because Bob Kelsing only plays a part in the image of your program to fans who know his shortcomings. Personally I would like us to be the Tennessee team we can be. I liked the Tennessee uniforms of the 90's and things like alternate uni's only really play to recruits when a program has nothing else to sale. Its a fact!! Oregon is barren wasteland with no real history to build on so when it comes to talent so they had to recruit nationally and convince kids to go away to school far from home. Yet rarely do they get top classes even with a baker's dozen of alternate uniforms. Another example would be Clemson which has developed into an image thanks to great coaching and winning. Without Googling, can you tell me who their commentator is? Probably not because today's recruits give no farts about radio. We are NEVER going to have instate talent to pull from like Georgia so we have to find way to even up the playing field like being a competitive team and being in the mix for championships while promoting a solid tradition getting there.
But then you get these young kids on here who start crying new uni's, my opinion is all that matters, MY WAY and want to scrap all that came before that can remember. News flash, kids today dont care about these things you mentioned as much as you think. Examples being Georgia and Georgia. Strong on sticking to their tradition and their uniforms have been the same for as long as I can remember. Also most of them where barely alive the last time TN was relevant so if not for a great tradition to back up Tennessee be a really good all-time football program, then recruiting would be a lot harder than it currently is.

Good catch on the typo keyboard warrior!! You are replying to a comment 4 pages back. Keep up with the conversation junior.
And your guess about my age would be wrong. I have been to Clemson games several times since moving to the upstate. To say they don't have tradition due to a lack of national championships is just false. I wonder if fans of teams with more national championships than UT believe Tennessee has no relevant tradition. Tennessee just happens to have a richer tradition to our fans because it's what we know but to say a team like Clemson has no tradition is outrageous.
Fulmer has dedicated more time, more money, more life, and taken Tennessee to higher levels than you can ever pretend to have done. It was time for him to go as HC but I don't have any ill feelings toward the man. I am grateful for what he has given us fans and the university during his long and still growing career with Tennessee. When people on here talk about getting back, they are talking about getting back to where Fulmer had us prior to his last 3 years. Every game we played under Fulmer I expected see a win. If we lost it was a disappointment and the entire season was a let down. Do you even know what it is like to play every team on your schedule an expect to win? Not hope we would but we expected it. A 7 or 8 win season under Fulmer was a complete and utter failure. Four coaches later and it's believed to be step in the right direction. Fulmer has been out has HC for a decade but you still think he is the end all be all reason for Tennessee not being relevant? You are lost.
I wouldn't mind it if they just ran the old Johnny Majors Shows. Those were the best and the content is just as relevant but much more entertaining.
The coaches' shows are really worthless in this day and age where every game is on TV and the highlights are shown 24X7.
Yes I did. What is your point? There is an edit button. I use it to edit and build on my comments. What do you use it for?I noticed you have edited your post multiple times but have still yet to respond to my original question. Let me post it again for you.

So what was Fulmer's winning percentage without Cutcliffe? Anyone with football knowledge knows that Cutcliffe was the brains of the operation. Look at Fulmer's record with Cutcliffe and without. There is a big disparity. Also if Fulmer was such a great coach that was so highly regarded among his peers then why did he not get another coaching job after TN let him go? I am pretty sure he campaigned for both the Clemson and Louisville jobs.

Hey FWIW, that bama announcer breaks down film and actually draws a scouting report on the upcoming team that saban puts in his gameday packet for his players on the first couple of pages.... So I would take that.Yeah fire him and bring in the Bama announcer!
I seriously don't believe the HC has any say in hiring and firing the radio personnel. Those folks are not just there for football but all sports - the AD may have some say - but not the HC.
And I find it interesting that you want a show produced by the University to trash the coaches and players in public. Really???
