I know, I know, beating a dead horse, but the Vol fanbase did right by our program and our university by not standing for this hire:

From an Ohio State Board:

I had an interesting day on the golf course today getting to play with a former Tampa Bay Buccaneer. Since I was wearing a OSU golf shirt he asked what I thought about Greg Schiano. I said that I had never seen a worse Buckeye defense against the run and giving up big plays going back to the Woody Hayes era. His comment was that once he makes up his mind he would rather lose than change. He also said the players in Tampa hated Schiano with a passion, which he said was probably the reason he didn't get the Tennessee job not him being at PSU. He also said he had heard the same environment was at Rutgers according to people he knew there. Really never followed the Buc's down here so never paid attention to Schiano's history here. But it sure makes you think.

Sounds like we were about to fire Butch and hire Butch 2.0

Well, with a 12-1 record so far and only 16 recruits and still one rank ahead of us, they shouldnt complain tooo much. Doubt they would have that if Schiano was HC though.

Well with Urban not going to be head coach, their recruiting will drop off.

I've always contended that his issues at Tampa was the biggest strike against him. Players told stories about him constantly lying and manipulating them in order to get his way. His deep ethical issues in Tampa also make it more difficult to give him the "benefit of the doubt" on Sandusky.

The Tennessee head football coach is one of the biggest and most visible jobs in the entire state. You don't give someone the position with as sketchy of an ethical background as Schiano. Schiano is another Art Briles in the making. At a bare minimum, it's pretty obvious that Schiano is the type of person to "look the other way" if his football players or coaches are engaged in behavior that could damage the university and the community.

I wouldn't call him "Butch 2.0". More like he was Butch Jones' performance with Art Briles' ethics.

If the Sandusky stuff was false, then he would have sued the crap out of the other guy for his statement about what he observed. Schiano doesn’t want to open that can of worms.

Yeah but who would Schiano hire as OC? Would he hire an OC? Would he think they were overrated?

Crazy how some of you people have to twist that into something it never meant. He said recruiting was the most important thing in the here and now and hiring an OC before the early signing period was overrated. It's called priorities and it never meant that "OC's are overrated".

One of the wisest things we ever did as a fanbase was rebel against that hire. I have no doubt whatsoever that Schiano would have been a Dooley type of HC. We may have took it on the chin from the media burt it was more than worth it. We got Fulmer and Pruitt when all was said and done and OSU didn't even make Greg the interim HC when Urban was suspended. That told me all I needed to know.

If Ray Rice never existed we wouldn't be having to talk about Schiano. I didn't need to know anything other than him having players try to blow up victory formations to know I didn't want anything to do with him.
There are reasons he hasn't been more vocal about clearing his name and depending on some of the 'good ole boys' to take care of him as one of their own.

When I read his comment I came up with a different conclusion.

If a team has enough great players or if a team doesn’t have enough talent then who the OC can sometimes be overrated.

It made me think of the 98 Vols.

Randy Sanders is a HC, Cut is a HC, when RS took over as OC when Cut left we were able win the NC. It wasn’t until latter that we noticed the drop off of production.

For the NC loaded team it didn’t matter so that’s where the “sometimes” seems to make sense.

I think he meant that sometimes the impact of the OC on the success of an offense can be overrated depending on the talent on the offense. Certainly when they didn’t have much impact on the talent that was there. Sorta like the revolving door of OCs and DCs at gumpville.

While maybe true, without a viable source, this is just hearsay.

Totally agree. Vol fans can forever stick their chests out for standing up against Schiano; Got Fulmer (and took some power from the Haslams) and Got Pruitt; too. WE done good. A lot of Unknowns came to light that weekend. Chart topper.

Urban has always had a very high tolerance for surrounding himself with people who have personal issues.

Over time, I think that will change with the new guy in charge at OSU.

To me, this is never beating a dead horse. Any chance that Tennessee fans can get to throw Schiano back into the face of the media who bashed us we should take it.
Heck yeah! It was like, who the hell does TN think they are that they should pass on such a great coach/opportunity, yet are silent as a cotton ball falling on foam while everyone else just kindly decline to give him any consideration. F' em all.
