Thats hard for me to say.. I wasnt born into it. I was born in Ohio.. My parents are KY fans but not die hard fans. My dad will watch a game every now and then but thats about it. My family moved around alot when I was younger. We did end up in TN a couple of times. when I was younger I think I didnt even like TN beacause everyone else did. (kind of a rebelious type thing I guess).. I dont think I appriciated them as much untill after we moved out of tn the first time.

My father was eaten by an alligator. My mother was killed by a stampeding circus elephant. I am allergic to felines.

I grew up in nearby Oak Ridge (we all glow in the dark, as they say, because of the nuclear missile production faciliity) Attended my first UT game at about the same age you did (seems like it was '73 vs. Notre Dame) Played in my first game as a Vol while still in high school - indoor soccer tournament that they sneaked me onto the team for. Attended UT, played for UT, met wife at UT, bleed orange, will never - ever change..

3. Jack Daniels
4. Yall took Bud Adams

Texans are forever in debt to Tennessee. Im just following the rules.

You played for UT? Which sport? Good post by the way.

I did not even know that UTK had a men's soccer team? I thought S.Carolina was the only SEC school with men's soccer and they have to play in Conf. USA or something for that sport.

To answer the question though, as I was being raised in Tennessee in the 70s and 80s you could either be a Vols fan or get really into cockfighting and tractor pulls. Let's just say I'm not an Ag guy.

Thanks, and welcome to the forum. I played soccer. We got to the SECCG game but lost to LSU. I blew my knee out the following year on the first day of practice - and would do it all over again, given the opportunity.

We did at the time. It was a club team that represented UT. All the school did was buy our jerseys. We paid for our own road trips. I don't think we have a mens team anymore.

It's a shame because I think some areas of Tennessee have very good youth soccer. Just an unforseen consequence of Title IX.

I grew up in Oak Ridge as well. Attended UT, met my wife at UT, bleed orange and will never change. Went to my first game in 1977. Didn't play for UT(Played all sports for ORHS) but did work concessions for many years at Neyland. I think there are a lot of similar stories about people from the East Tennessee area. That is why we are such passionate fans and want to win so bad. Ut sports is a part of our lives. Go Big Orange!

Grew up in a UT family, but we never went to any games..just couldn't afford it. I went to one game with the boyscouts when I was young (UNLV many years back)

Looking at colleges, I really never considered any other than UT (Well, I tossed around the idea of Tulane...but looking back, I would have ended up here anyway). I played in the band in HS, and decided to do it in college. Marched 4 years in the Pride, and now I'm just a student that loves UT sports.

Went to TTU, but born a Vol. I grew up in Kingston and my entire family (with the exception of a few heathen relatives down in Bama) is made up of Volunteer fans from way back in the day.

I don't even think I have an earliest memory of being a fan -- my fandom just "was."

Actually grew up my whole life as an Auburn fan, applied to both schools, got into both and my family figured it was a done deal. Stopped by UT on the way down to visit Auburn, "just to see what it looks like", never even considered Auburn ever again.

And, in regards to soccer, there is acutally one of the best high school age club teams in the entire country just outside of Nashville. Played against them during high school during a travel tournament in FL and they were playing at a whole different level!
