Well I can certainly say that I am not by any mean impressed with Simms at QB. He is a decent QB who lacks the vision and quick decision making skills that is needed to be a good QB. With that said why not give Bray some snaps. I am not calling for a switch but maybe every 4th or 5th series bring him in and see what happens. He is supposed to be the future and hes only seen 6 snaps and that was against the skyhawks in that blowout. Anybody else agree or disagree? I just think he needs to get some snaps and whats to lose when the current QB is mediocre at best?

you should go back and read comments by Dooley last week.

Simms has short comings, but not as many as Tyler.

The game planning and play calling has a reduced scope and expectations for the quarterback. Reads are limited to one or two. Reading the field is lmited to a third per play. Why?

pass protection from an extremely inexperienced line. The QBs, doesn't matter which, doesn't have a lot of time to scan the field or check down on receivers.

Even at that, Simms is better prepared than the backups.

as CDD has said, it is what it is...

i believe that Bray will come to his own when the time comes. simms for now will be the starter.

The offense needs to get a rhythm going so they can compete in some of the truly winnable games that are coming up on the schedule. In order for that to happen, the one guy needs to be taking as many snaps as possible. I really hope that UAB's defense is horrible so the Vols can get a bunch of first downs and get Simms more experience. If there's a big lead I am sure we will see Bray.

Ok I will say it again...I am not calling for or wanting Bray to Start. I just feel that maybe he should get some more gametime snaps. If Nick hadnt have transfered he would have been the starter. I certainly agree that right now Simms is the best option as a starter but there is always next season and I feel that if we are blowing someone out and/or being routed then maybe he should see some more time.

The reason Nick transferred was because he was falling on the depth chart and didn't want to risk not winning the job.

Bray has played as much as he should have. We had a big lead against UTM and he came in. He also showed his inexperience and freshmanitis. We have been behind the last two games trying to play catch up. Not sure how he could have gotten in the game on those two. Assuming we beat UAB like we are suppose to, I'm sure he will get reps.

I will say in the FL game no reps were ok as we were one play from being back in it...Now vs Oregon there was no catching up after the half. I say let Bray play 4th qtr last part of it. I hope we rout UAB and he gets some playing time.

In the Oregon game, CDD was upset that the team quit when they got down. If he had brought Bray in it would have watered down his message that we fight till the end.

Did you see how many times Simm's was hit Saturday?!? Bray would have been on his back all game! CDD is not going to do that to Bray. Give it a break and please people quit asking for Bray! The back up is not always the better option. I remember not so long ago EVERONE was wanting Crompton over E.A and look how that worked out for us. Look guys there's a reason he is the back up right now. There's no quick fix to this team right now , it is what it is and we need to be patient and let this team grow and get experience.

If Bray were really a better choice, I have full faith that the coaches would put him in.

Therefore, we do not need another Simms vs. Bray thread.

But the coaches don't know jack compared to the countless VN posters!

i say leave simms in all game this upcoming saturday. The more snaps and timing with the recievers is what we need. Game time practice. If we run up the score so be it. We need Simms to get his game staight if we want to win from here on out.

How many of the folks on here that are calling for Bray to get snaps that Simms needs to improve, were also calling for Nick Stephens or BJ Coleman to get snaps over Crompton last year, or even to replace him?

Hmmmmm? :dunno:

is it a UT fan illness to always believe they know better than the coaches who should be quarterback......

I'm starting to be concerned that it may be a requirement for true fandom. :)
