Simms, the biggest surprise on offense? (merged)

Austin Ward Tweet from last night - There wasn't a whole lot to evaluate, but Simms threw a couple of extremely pretty deep balls for scores and looked like the clear starter.

I think this was from a couple days ago but I searched and didn't see it posted anywhere.

Apparently, Tauren Poole said he thinks Matt Simms is going to be the biggest surprise on Tennessee's offense this season.

There has also been a lot of talk about how strong of an arm he has. I only watched part of the Orange and White game, but from what I saw, I didn't see any throws that made me think Simms had a particularly strong arm. Did I miss it?

From watching the Orange and White game, I didn't think Simms had a shot at starting. Bray was by far the best quarterback on the field from my view.

I'd merge the OE pessimism and and radical optimism by just hoping he takes the hits early that we need some QB to take and that he doesn't go Crompton and litter the sky with INT's. Basically if he just takes a beating doesn't give away easy turnovers and keeps trying through the first 6 I'll call him a clear winner. From the practice reports I've read it's been his biggest highlight anyway, ballistics gel aside.

Finally someone who gets it.

OE is here to further the conversation and laugh at people like bluetick.....

peaygolf89 - I love that profile pic - was that the real thing in Munich or a festivity here in the US?

Rule #1 is never take me seriously......

Rule #2 I am the leisure management guru of VN. I have to keep things moving.

I'm excited about Simms. He had a great camp at the Manning Camp and the team seems to really support him. Reports were that everyone was impressed with his arm at the Manning Camp. I hope a lot of people are underestimating him.

I've heard this a couple of different people. We'll see how it goes.

I think Simms hasn't been anywhere long enough to learn a system and get comfortable, that has alot to do with his past performance. Now he knows he'll be here a couple of years, has learned the playbook and is comfortable with his coaches and surroundings. I believe Simms will do fine and suprise most people this year.

Again, you guys are crazy....simms has the talent. The coaches raving about his throwing and spirals were NFL scouts! He needs to get comfortable and then it will all fall into place...Poole has his back if it gets ugly.

Most likely the Gators will win the east. But just for chits n giggles...imagine the face of Gatornation hit right in the mouth with a big orange over hand right...if the Vols go 3-0 they'll go at least 10-2. Think about that.

There was a guy called in to a local sports show here yesterday predicting a 4-0 start for UT this year. I am pretty sure I could here him snorting something between words.

And if the Vols go 4-0 you'd charge his area, act like you were long lost buddies and ask him if his sister got prom queen...just anyone else on this site roster would.
