Simms, the biggest surprise on offense? (merged)

If Chaney and Kiffin liked him I say he is good! I dont know how much of the decision was based on him being sort of a "fill in the gap" guy until Bray was ready or how much was based on "want". Since the Manning camp praise and hearing his teammates talk, I think he will surprise us all!!

I have watched some sorry QB's look really good in the last decade and its been based on how many plays the WR's made...Simms is going to deliver the ball....Hopefully the O-Line will give him time, and the WR run great routes. I think the velocity on which he throws the ball is a good thing....makes it hard to intercept and makes it hard to break on the ball...Now with someone like Crompton or AInge they had a floater pass...It had more touch but allowed for the defense to close on the ball quicker...

Simms has a good understanding of the offense and seems to be the leader out of both. Bray will be the future for sure, but Simms is going to play well...Last year I was worried because our Weapons were hurt in the start of the season and our Offense never clicked to start...I hope and pray we get off to a quick start!

I'm the most positive and out going person on this board.

Again, no reason to lie to yourself about a bad situation. Bray is the future, not Simms.

If Simms can't move the ball then Bray will get his shot and he'll end this discussion. Simms has been named the starter may not end up that way by the end of the year. I'll say i've been impressed when i've heard him talk. Seems mature for his age, might help , might not.

3 TDs 7 INTs.

Having a good arm doesn't make you any good in game situations. UF is going to destroy him, and I'd be surprised if he even makes it to the 2nd half of that game.

If Simms is the biggest surpise, he sure is doing a heck of a job disquising it with his spring and fall camp stats.

The guy has an all-SEC tight end, and several experienced, talented receivers to throw to. The only question is can this young line protect. If the guy doesn't absolutely light it up against Martin, then there are major problems.

I think you may have contradicted yourself with the word question in your question about the line which you actually ended with a period. See if you think Simms sucked in the spring and fall camps doesn't that then mean the offensive line is not the only question? If in your first sentence (paragraph) you would have said Simm's may be a big surprise this year his preseason stats were very good in fact he only threw one interception during the entire fall camp it would then make sense to say "the only question is" can the young line protect? Problem is when reading your post it sounded more like this "Simms spring and fall stats were horrible I just don't see how anyone could think he will be a surprise". The only question is can the young line protect? Since you had already established Simms as a question mark the young line can't be the "only" question mark. Follow me?

OK I had a few minutes to spare and since you only have a few posts (not that I have many more) I thought I would bust your chops a little all in fun of course. Seriously though I don't think anyone expects Simms to set the world on fire but he does seem to have progressed quite a bit not only as a QB but as a person from a maturity standpoint over the last year or so. I am actually impressed with the fact that he only threw one interception in all of fall camp even if his completion percentage wasn't exceptionally high. Truth is the one interception is a fact but I'm guessing the completion percentage isn't very accurate. Personally I expect Simms to be a decent QB but I worry about his capacity to handle live SEC action. Something tells me he may turn into a head case when he gets a significant amount of pressure. That said I guess the only question is can the young line protect? period:unsure:

Man I'll be glad when the season finally starts I think I'm losing it. :geek:

I have zero problem with Rick or Casey Clausen. If Casey had some offensive weapons at WR, he would have done better.

I'm excited about Simms. He had a great camp at the Manning Camp and the team seems to really support him. Reports were that everyone was impressed with his arm at the Manning Camp. I hope a lot of people are underestimating him.

This one time at Manning Camp.....GBO!!!

TN shocks the conference wins the east, gets rematch with Bammer in Atl and wins the SEC. Simms wins Heisman!

The Tide play 7 straight before the UT game in Knoxville.
They scheduled their bye week AFTER the UT game. Oops!
Returning Vols know they outplayed Alabama last year.
If Tennessee goes 1-11, they'll still beat Alabama. Book it.

I was skeptical if he could too when he first got here, but my opinion changed after the Manning Camp.

Outperforming guys like Luck, Ponder, Keenum, McElroy, Moore, Jefferson, and Yates shows that he definitely has the physical tools to get it done.

I'd merge the OE pessimism and and radical optimism by just hoping he takes the hits early that we need some QB to take and that he doesn't go Crompton and litter the sky with INT's. Basically if he just takes a beating doesn't give away easy turnovers and keeps trying through the first 6 I'll call him a clear winner. From the practice reports I've read it's been his biggest highlight anyway, ballistics gel aside.
