Simms Should NOT Have Been Pulled

Yeah simms didnt throw any picks and quite frankly he hasnt played all that bad. But he does hold the ball WAY too long. Granted behind a more experienced line he may be able to sit back in the pocket and wait for receivers to get open but bray has a quicker release, seemingly a knack for eluding pressure, and the offense was actually moving the ball when he was in. Yeah he threw the one pick six but he's a freshman who was coming into the game for the first series of the game. With him being a freshman and simms a junior, if the fresh is better or at least equal you play the fresh b/c there's more time to develop him. Ok this is the last Im gonna talk about this qb situation, its gettin old.

10/13 153 yards, TD 0 ints.

The first fumble was not his fault at all. The second was partially his fault for not controlling the ball while moving through traffic. Both were the result terrible blind side protection.

He would never have thrown that pick six. Many high school QBs would have been able to read the defense on that route.

All that said... Bray recovered well and played pretty good the rest of the way, however saying Simms takes too many sacks is like the pot calling the kettle black if you think Bray doesn't do the exact same thing. We don't have the line to protect for all the pass plays the moronic Jim Chaney calls throughout the course of a game.

I'm not saying Bray shouldn't play the rest of the season, all I'm saying is Simms was having a pretty gritty and good game, probably his best as a Vol, when he got benched.
Yea, TP had like 17 carries for 30 something yards. DR was our leading rusher all on end arounds for God's sake. If anyone is a moron it's you...not Chaney. If not for our passing today, we get beat by 40 or more.

I like Simms, he is a tough kid but, he has proven he is not a SEC caliber QB. Let Bray get the experience he earned it today.

Bray is our future. All the other young guys are out their taking lumps, he should be as well. It will make them gel better for the future. Simms is a QB2 and if he does not like it GTFO. Bray,Worley,Nance if Simms decides to leave next year.

This is BRAYS team.....

I can't believe how quickly we turn on a player. I think Bray will start Homecoming now, but Simms has basically been used as a human shock absorber, and now will get benched for four games he has a real chance at winning. THAT SUCKS for the kid. He holds the ball too long. That's basically his one big fault.

First fumble was Chaney's fault. I had to stop myself from throwing the TV out the window when 1st and goal and Simms is in the shotgun. The only surprise was not trying to run the ball in the red zone with the wide receivers.

Second fumble was huge and on Simms. However, we were still in the game. I believe it was a mistake to bring on Bray at that time.

I agree with much the OP says. Moreover, I actually feel for Matt Simms. I wanted Crompton benched for two years (even when he played well); Matt is no Andy Kelly, but he's been a great little Vol IMHO.

That's literally the only reason he was signed.

He starts until the OL gels. The OL has work to do, but Bray is a better player.

Yeah, and what happens when Simms stays in the game? Oh yeah, he probably fumbles it 3 more times and we lose by 30 instead of 14.

I knew that DD would pull Simms...I just did not think he would do it as soon as he did. I was thinking it was a big mistake after the Bray pick 6 and that DD's frustration caused him to make a rash decision...but my mind changed. Bray is our man! He is young and still a little hesitant and it takes him some time to get into a rhythm but he had some SICK passes! He is the most talented of the two...hands-down! I look forward to seeing this guy start the next 4 years! GBO!

no - just no. It was Simms fault on both occasions. Had plenty of time to get rid of it. Holds the ball too long.

You're being kind. He holds the ball WAY too long. Both fumbles were 100% Simms' fault. He had tons of time to throw the ball on both of those plays.

Every play that Simms makes is a busted coverage or near-sack that he is fortunate to get the ball out of his hands. I like the kid, but he cannot make the tight throws that Bray can. Tyler is our future...he needs snaps now. We're not going anywhere this year. Let Bray play half the game from here forward.

Are you freaking kidding me? Simms was solely responsible for South Carolina having the lead. His two fumbles resulted in 14 South Carolina points.
