Simms' performance

We need to let Simms roll out more like he did on the TD strike to Moore. Not sure why they continued to keep him in the pocket.

He played Good especially what he has to deal with! The Team didn't lay down! I am pleased with effort not satified as a fan. It is what it is

Same thing with Crompton, they both look better on the roll outs.

Thats because the reads become a lot easier when the quaterback is working with a third of the field. He also doesn't have people running at him straight up the middle.

He is out there to manage the game....today he had to carry the weight of the game on his shoulders since we couldn't run the ball well....after having awful field position for the first 2 possessions...he had a chance to really step up and give us full momentum...instead he threw an awful interception directly to Florida's LB...right in the #'s.

So far it seems for each good play he makes he follows it up with 2 bad ones....just feels like it. He does seem to be playing better at this point versus Crompton at this point last season.....not that it makes me feel any better about the direction we're going so far.

Simms is not a good QB right now. He may be in the future but he is not there yet. He is the best we have though, so that' who we go with. We just have to come to terms with our weaknesses.

after giving the game away 2 weeks in a row.. .i think he looked great.

He has shown to be consistent so far....I saw no growth from last week to this week in QB play. He was the deal breaker this week for sure and pretty much opened the flood gates last week.

Maybe we got a stats guy here...QB stats for last 2 weeks?

He looked like a guy that couldn't make it at louisville, nothing more nothing less

Matt Simms did what we expected of him. He's not a five-star quarterback, and he makes mistakes. The real problem today was the inexperienced offensive line. They failed to give Simms time to make the right decision. When was the last time UT's quarterback sacked 6 times? Also, Demps was contained, but the D-line couldn't put pressure on Brantley, who had more than enough time to convert all those 3rd and longs.

Simms is temporary, another QB is only a matter of time. Does anyone really think we are going to be ok if he is still the starter next year? Maybe the next 5 games are not the time to bring in Bray, but we have to get him or someone else experience because Simms really is not a good QB. His release is painfully slow and he is not accurate. I do not see much upside. We are going to lose this year regardless of the QB, we might as well look to the future.

He will get better each game. Our line is very young. Our coaches will coach him up. I like that Simms did not fall apart after a few big mistakes. He made some good and bad plays. It appears the team really likes him. He's our Quarterback! GBO!!!

He's an average QB making his third start behind an offensive line that by the end was two sophs and 2 true freshmen. All things considered, he'd done ok.

That doesn't seem too shabby against one of the nation's best defenses and behind an oline with a combined three starts and a brand new center.

19/31 today.....so, as much as I hate to, I can force myself to see the logic of the staff to stick with Simms. IF, he can eliminate the killer crap he does, then I would say there is hope for improvement and keeping the team in the game.

So....now that I have calmed down a bit, I look forward to seeing a clean game next week at the QB spot!

Yes. Kind of the way I felt about Crompton after the Auburn game last year. I said the same thing to my wife a few minutes ago. Maybe I'm looking for a silver lining!

Simms has not hit the level of Crompton yet.

He has to do something like throw three interceptions on back to back to back possessions.

His INT in the endzone was pretty pathetic and it really killed our momentum. The other pick was bad too, but I too thought he rebounded and played decent down the stretch.

Simms has mixed in enough good plays to keep us within striking distance. If we score a TD instead of the pick before the half, the game could have been completely different down the stretch.

the fake punt changed the game... we were starting our steam roll and Urban let the pressure out... but 6 years straight there are no what ifs. we just got to get better.. they said this is the fourth year in a row that we are 1-2 so there you go...

I agree Matt Simms is head and shoulders better than Crompton was at this point last season, there is really no debate here.

He was under pressure a lot today, which lead to some mistakes. The endzone pick was a bad throw. Hopefully he can cut down on the turnovers, and make the plays that are there in the future.

he's still shaky. you have to remember that one of his td's was under the circumstances of blown coverage where hunter was wide open with nobody within 20 yards of him. i still don't feel comfortable with him under center, but he's what we have right now i'm afraid.

My feelings as well.

He's young and learning. . .has to get rid of the ball quicker and he'll do that with more pocket (presents!!:))

he has a quick release and #11 (forgot his name - sr. moment) will be awesome!!

The Vols will still surprise some people this year!

If you think about it Fl had 2 busted coverages. Besides that they held simms in check. He can't handle pressure. He's not a leader. He can't read defenses. He holds the ball way too long. There it is.
