*sigh* half the football team is following Dave Doeren on Twitter now..

Why even fire Butch if you plan to settle for this overpaid ball boy? I'm disgusted with TN football. Schiano would have been the same. We just shook the garbage can a little.

Yall have to remember that this forum is a tiny minority of the fanbase. You average, casual fan is not going to stop going to games regardless of who the hire is. The money will keep rolling in and the status quo will remain. Nothing will ever change.

I'm not so sure. This is uncharted territory for this fanbase. Me: I've posted on here recently that I'll keep going. Had season tickets in the family since I was a student in '77. I have two sons attending UT at the moment. This is really getting under my skin - the last 72 hours have been very enlightening.

I'll put it like this - I'm watching Currie going down the list and screwing up at each stop as the candidates get less and less desirable, when there are others that have baggage, but are way more logical if you want competence at coach.

This NC state guy.. WHY is he better than Kiffin, Miles, Sumlin? We make a hire like that, I won't renew. Big, Explosive, Expensive.. blah blah. If that happens, the whole AD would have to be revamped before I'd be back.

Right now, I'd even be happy with a "Time Out". Go interim for a year. Don't knee jerk into some flunky, which is about to happen.

With all due respect bigorangecrush... I'm not alone.

Sharing what I've learned through sources

-NC State is offering Doeren 5 years, 3 million per year. So the fifth year has been added. State also gave $750,000 to add to pool for assistant coaches and will guarantee contracts up to three years. That's a big deal for assistants.
.
-hearing Tennessee is offering 4.5 million per year for five years. I'm told Tennessee AD was in Raleigh today.

-I'm told Doeren will sleep on it and decide tomorrow. I'm guessing something should come by lunch.

-my personal feeling (despite disparity in numbers I've been told) is Doeren will stay. Maybe I'm just looking at it from glass half full perspective. Bottom line- Tennessee fans don't support the hire. State fans (for the most part) want him to stay.

As always, things are fluid and will report if anything changes. I think Cory picked up on some stuff at game and will share what he's heard once he gets home from game.

Who is Cory?

God it’s sad to see how far we have fallen, I feel bad my daughter who I take to almost every home game for years now has never seen a decent team in her 12 years and from the looks of it probably never will. Currie is is hands down the worst AD we’ve ever had and that is quiet an accomplishment considering we had Mike Hamilton and Dave Hart. Doesn’t Doeren have Kansas st ties? I love the vols and the University but as long as these tyrants continue to run it my money will go elsewhere until they show us they are serious about winning championships and stop with the good ole boy club. Every home game next year attendance wise will look like the candy game last week if they do not hire a good coach. Hell if you are going to hire someone like Doeren I’d much rather have Tee or any UT alum. They need to clean house and stop letting Currie continue to lead this search before he seals our fate for the next 3-5 years.

I’m not a deeply religious man but I’m sure gonna pray tonight !

I'm right there with you PTCarter.

Apathy at an all time high. I just stopped caring after SCar and Vandy last year.

I will take the next coach off if they trot out another Dooley/Jones type hire.

New Obviously, I am a member of both! Hoping Doeren stays in Raleigh, because he will not cut it in Knoxville!

Update (10:30 p.m.)
There were rumors that head coach Dave Doeren was supposed to join assistant coach Des Kitchings at Ricky Person's for an in-home visit tonight but instead it was just Kitchings. Take that FWIW.

Another source has heard that Doeren may have met with UT tonight but again that is not confirmed. It would match what one other source told us after this original post.

A little bit of clarification (which may actually add to some of the confusion to be honest).

We have heard now that NC State is willing to go one year added onto the already automatic extension to 2020, meaning he would be under contract until 2021. Doeren may be seeking an overall extension that pushes out five years to 2022.

There are also rumors of a pretty extensive raise being offered plus additional compensation for the assistant coaches. That said, the dollar figures being reportedly thrown around by Tennessee would still be substantially above what NCSU probably can go by $1-plus million.

They’re giving big money to a guy who is basically .500 in the ACC. What a bunch of ****ing morons

I am done. I will continue on VN because there are fun and interesting people on here. I will watch basketball because I enjoy what Barnes is building.

But I am done with football if he is hired.

So if NC State pushes an extension like it sounds like would he stay?

Why does it feel like we are relying on NC State's administration success to avoid our own administration's idiocy!?!?!?!?
