I was reading comments on YouTube between auburn & alabama fans and the auburn fan told the bama fan that their fan base were mostly mad up of sidewalk alumni necks. What does this mean?

All sec fanbases have them with exception of maybe vandy.

If you don't know what a dirt road alumni is then you probably are one.

I graduated from UT and I have no idea what it means either.

Not a joke really.

Just a term of endearment for fans who have no ties to the The Hill other than their love for the Big Orange.

Pretty much. They contribute the Vols however they can so they're sidewalk/dirt road alumni.

The "neck" part was likely thrown in due auburn's little brother syndrome towards bammer.

Oh I see, well I guess I am a sidewalk alumni neck. I would have loved more than anything in this world to have been an official UT student or alumni. But alot of us never made it off the farm so being just a "dirt road " fan is as close as we can get.
I live and die with UT Football so it's just as important to me as any alumni. It's my escape from the real world. Alot of us in our small corners of our great state with our thick southern accents maybe looked down upon as uneducated hicks but we have love for UT. but we all have a common bond that's why I love it!!

I live 10 mins away from the stadium and have my whole life, I have been a fan from as long as I can remember. I have never been a student at UT but that doesn't mean that an alumni of UT is any more of a fan than I am. I've been to lots of games and have supported them through thick and thin. If it were only former alumni and current alumni the we would have a bunch of fans sitting on their a** afraid to be to loud so they won't disturb there neighbor sitting next to them.

The neck part was not intended to include you. It was thrown in by the auburn fan to insult bammers. I probably should have clarified.

An auburn fan calling any other fanbase redneck is just hilarious to me.

I have no problem with sidewalk alumni, the more the merrier. That is, right up until they start trying to weigh in on how the athletic department spends money or its relationship to the academic side of things.

You don't think there are a few alumni or professors at UT who are misinformed about where our AD gets its funding?

I know more sidewalk alumni that donate plenty more to the AD then some UT grads do. Just saying

I have a very good lifelong friend, who attended MTSU for one year, came home and started work in his Dad's business, and donated $4 mil. for an athletic facility at UT. I guess you could call him a sidewalk alumnus, and as a UT grad I'm glad he is.
