I know some of the former players who are very excited about the sidelines change. Is anyone else fired up about it?

Did we put part of the visitors section right behind the visiting team sideline?

It is awesome to consider a Florida or Bammer realizing as they get to their seat that they cannot really see over the backs of the scrubs from their team.

Did we get some more students rimmed around Neyland? In 1997-99 Neyland seemed very loud, but in many of the years I attend there are lots of old people with headphones on (do they not realize Ward is gone?) who refuse to make noise when TN is on defense.

I hope lots of the quietest fans are going to be golf clapping in the Tennessee Terrace and that the noise level of Neyland will be up as we start winning.

There is NO EXCUSE for Oregon to be able to communicate without resorting to hand signals.

My Dad seems to think this is a very good change just for the shade factor alone. The Florida game our players will be in the shade all game and they will be in the hot September sun!

My question is if the student section will be in the same places. Might be a little close to the opposing bench.

per the SEC the student section cannot be directly behind an opponets bench... so they get shifted a little bit and will fill the corner where they are essentially for the most part anyhow... along with their 3 or so upper level sections..... which is where unfortunatly they didn't show hardly at all except for about 2 games last year. hopefully since they lowered their ticket prices they will show. pretty sad they aren't there anyhow IMO. some 25k students including grad level and they have about 14-15k seats and don't fill them. Weak. When I was a student it was very rare there was ever empties even against the jokers like UL Monroe for example.

I bet when you were a student we didn't stink and they didn't charge you for tickets...I know when I was in school the tickets were free and no one was showing up to the games at the end of the 05 season.

It's a product of the times. There are several reasons for that. Charging for tickets and the product on the field are the main two. But one overlooked issue is that with the academic standards getting higher, the student body isn't the same that it was in years past.

some more changes that need to happen:

1) student tickets should be general admission-forces students to get to the game earlier and also encourages attendance because students get to sit with friends and have opportunity to get there early and get good seats

2) student tickets should be sold as a package at the beginning of the season. game by game selling of tickets leads to fair weather fans not buying tickets and attending games once we loose a few. pre-selling season tickets to students gives the student section the opportunity to sell out early in the year, and take the seats (above the student section) that students do not buy and sell them to the public

if the athletic dept makes these changes, we will see a rise in student attendance

If you were waffling on going and realized a section was GA and so packed with people that you were going to have to stand sideways the whole time you would probably just skip it.

The main reason I do not like the tickets being sold for all season is that it encourages kids who got cheap tickets to not use them for games they do not want to go to. Tickets are now tied to student IDs, so if they bought the season and stayed home for 3 games, no one else could take their place.

I think the system is pretty well designed.

they moved our sections D, E and F around to the back of the endzone... so we want be sitting behind the other team... it really sucks too i hate sitting in the endzone cant see the other side of the field that well

the reason ppl stand sideways in the student section is because those assigned seats are only followed by a small minority of students. what the result is half the ppl actually sit in their seats and the other half sit wherever they want. they should just let everyone sit general admission. sell upperdeck to public, and sit students in a fenced it, blocked off section and make it accessable to students only. schools like bama, auburn, uga always sell out their student section. even in their down years. why can't we??

because ut is the only school that makes their students sit in the place that they do the seats werent too bad last year because we did have d e and f but now they will blow this year pretty badly... i didn really like the fact that they took out all those seats to put in the tennessee terrace either cuts down on noise imo

I agree with the sideline change, the sunlight was unbearable at times especially during the Georgia game a few years ago. But I believe the students are getting a sour deal here. Removing the students from sections D-F is not acceptable. (Yes I realize you cannot place the students behind the opponent, and I realize that the adjacent side of the stadium is inhabited by donors primarily from the 1950's). This move will serve to further discourage students from attending the game. Mike Hamilton and the rest of his staff need to take a step back and analysis why this team takes the field. It seems like every interest has been considered other than that of the students, who sadly will leave each game with sore necks from trying to catch a glimpse of a replay on our ad covered jumbotron.

and if you make it GA, it will be even worse. I highly doubt that UGA students sold out their allotment during the depths of the Goff era. This sounds like speculation to me.

The SEC prohibits student seating behind the visiting bench.

During down years when I was a younger man, I sat in the student sections that were not full for every school mentioned except UF.

I understand giving premium seating to donors who contribute the most $$$ but I think when people had to contribute, some of the "grandfathered" seats that people thought they had a right to for perpetuity went back in the donor rotation.

If you pay 10k for your seats and you want to be unruffled and enjoy the game as a spectator instead of a participant, I hope you will sit in the Terrace. If you want to sit in the lower level close to the field, have a pulse and stand and yell when we are on defense.

Your donation does not help the product on the field, and the opponent does not care how nice you look in your blazer with Tennessee tie. If you scream so they cannot hear and you are joined by at least 50k of the other people in the stadium, you can make a difference and each time they have penalties for false starts etc you can be certain that something you did during the game mattered.

So, donations aren't used to improve facilities, which improve recruiting. Donations are not used to improve the stadium, which does improve recruiting. Donations do not improve recruiting budgets, that do improve recruiting.

I agree, we should play in a 20,000 seat stadium with a track around it, and have the players work out over at Bearden High School.

I hope that you're right. My hope is that the addition of the club seats and the terrace, will move more of the blue hairs and the old men that yell at you when you stand, up and free up some of the lower seats for the younger, or at least louder fans.

I think you'll see even less students turn out this year since they're moving us from great seats (C-F) to behind the goal posts. I wish they would have just flipped the student section to the opposite side...

That said, I'll still be there every saturday

I wrote a letter last year to this effect, as well as the visitor's section was on our home side. I think this is a great move to get our guys in the shade and away from the visitors.

conomist.

Donations are important, perhaps that was unnecessary hyperbole but I want the donors who want to sit the whole game in a quiet atmosphere to move up to the terrace and give their tickets to fans who will actually cheer and scream and stomp and make it unpleasant for the other team to visit.

The building of new facilities has been accomplished in large measure by the people in the terrace, and not by the old man sitting behind me who like me gave a few K.
