SIAP....First coaches expected to be added to staff...

I too am worried about recruiting.
The SEC is an entirely different beast than what they were used to at UCF in recruiting.

Man I wonder if Heupel realized UT is in the SEC and not the AAC before he took the job? Wonder if he realizes he’s going to have to recruit players that will allow him to beat the likes of Bama, UGA, and UF. Nah, probably thought he could save the program a whole boatload of money and only recruit the best players around Knoxville.

Lebby - OC
Golesh - TE
Elarbee - OL
Halzle - QB
Hardesty(?) - RB

Odom -DC
Garner - DL
Steele - DB and co-DC?
Stoops - LB

Thinking...
WR - Kodi Burns (former Auburn WRcoach, just hired UCF)

I'm liking for DC/LB - Zach Arnett (Ms St DC, former SDSU DC, one of brightest young defensive minds)

Not sure who they would bring in his 3-3-5 scheme

The TE and OL coach are great additions. Don't know much about the QB coach.

I think his QB coach is probably pretty solid he's been with Josh Heupel as an assistant QB coach from OU to Utah St, to Mizzou to UCF.... So he had some hand in the success of all those QBs so I'm on board with it!

If we got Arnett that would be an absolute coup. I think the AD really needs to pony up for him considering were not paying Pruitt's buyout and Heupel isn't that expensive

I agree and I think he's gettible as he interviewed for a few other DC positions (LSU, Texas, USCe, Ore)... I believe if we offered him he would accept as this still a step up from Miss State even with our mess.

Plus when mentioned by John Brice with Football scoop, Brice is usually pretty spot on. So I like the chances of it.

Zach Arnett for DC/LB --- what that means for DB and DL not sure with that 3-3-5 scheme but it's becoming more popular in college football

Bringing most of his offensive staff with him only makes sense. They know his offense in and out, and will help make a seamless transition. I'm sure he's had time to converse with Steele, and doesn't vibe with him on a level of trust. The defensive staff will need to have a couple of really good recruiters. His offensive production history will mostly help recruit itself here early on.

That's a shame and the first misstep IMO with Heupel's staff. To me, Steele was a no-brainer to keep. He was already used to being DC juxtaposed to a high tempo offense. He would've been a good fit. Now I have to wonder who Heupel can get.
Steele torpedoed himself with his shenanigans at Auburn. He has no one to blame but himself.

He has a system (on offense) to recruit to, and it doesn’t require 5* talent at every position. Yes, we need to recruit well on defense, so hopefully he brings in a good staff there.

I’m with you, but it’s almost February.......let’s be realistic, he ain’t bringing in a “top” staff in February.

Tennessee got on this “way” too late for a coach to have the best “chance” for 1st year success.

Not saying it won’t happen......but just by the time frame it made it much harder.
Hiring a HC within a few days of NSD for a program in the news for NCAA violations creates a tough road for this year's recruiting. Sure, much of it is done, but the "on the fence" or "last minute" breaks are unlikely to fall our way.

We need to dig in, watch what Heupel does with what he can put together this year, and steel ourselves for an exciting, but not well oiled, offense.

On defense, May God have mercy on our souls.

If he brings a staff that he's comfortable with at this late point, fine.
If he doesn't replace those who fail to adjust to the SEC........ we have a problem.
If HE fails to adjust to the SEC, we will have entered a deeper level of Hell because he has a long deal that gets 2 years longer if the NCAA dings us.

My only concern is can these guys recruit vs the SEC? Do they have HS coach relationships?

I share that concern but did you know that he actually recruited well in his conference?

I just looked at the 247 rankings and his classes were fairly consistent in overall ranking (50-60) outside of 2020. Here’s his AAC ranking:
2017 - 1
2018 - 2
2019 - 1
2020 - 7
2021 - 4 (so far)

Thinking Osovet will be back as well. Only makes sense, maybe WR coach

I think I would rather have the guy JH hired instead to UCF, the former Auburn WR coach. Really just not interested in any Pruitt holdovers, even if I think they're good coaches. We need a clean slate.

I really think a 3-3-5 defense is going to get absolutely ran through in the SEC. And these first transitional years...ouch. Flashbacks of 2012 UGA running through my head.

Might be able to stop Florida some, though. Not sure if Mullen remembers what a RB is. Think they only used one twice against OU.
