On Dobbs..."great job of managing their offense. He knows when to run it and when to pull it. He brings a different dimension"

On doing anything different in practice to prepare for Neyland..."just some louder noise"

On Hurd..."He's a great player. Power, speed and vision. Both of their backs are determined to run the ball well. It will be a big factor for us to play well up front and in the secondary as well. We will have to be physical."

Is Knoxville one of those places where crazy things can happen and 105,000 fans can influence the game? "Not really. It will be great for the fans, but in the end we are on the field ready to go just like any other game."

On UT's defense..."They try to get a lot of pressure...very active up front. Play very tight coverage. Gotta be able to handle it"

On OU's receivers vs UT's secondary that gave up a lot of yards last week. "I'm sure they will improve and hopefully we will too"

Have you noticed anything different about UT's offensive line vs. last year? "You can tell they have a year of experience under their belt. I could tell they have improved"

Any particular challenges on Hurd being a big back and Kamara being fast? "The challenges are both really good. They compliment each other well. They are really excellent running backs"

What do you have to do to beat UT "Take care of the football...not get foolish penalties...be physical on Defense. Offensively...have balance."

Some other things I noticed looking at their stats vs Akron and ours vs BG...

We ran a total of 87 offensive plays. BG ran 85. OU ran 75. Akron ran 70.

OU wan penalized 9 times for 90 yds. We were penalized 4 times for 40 yds.

3rd down conversions....

the 3rd down stat is what gets them beat. 4 of 13 against Akron will not get it done Saturday at Neyland.

Ouch. Hard to argue. I will say Stoops will only try that stuff once crosses midfield. Only teams with nothing to lose, playing with house money try that stuff of going on 4th deep in your own territory. So hopefully they won't have too many 4th down attempts.

Stoops has a history of being short and almost insulting to/with local media. He simply doesn't respect them and even when it comes to more regional or national coverage, he picks and chooses who he favors in an interview process.

In his mind, stadium noise, regardless of where the team is playing, is irrelevant. His comments about Neyland are not necessarily reflective of his opinion about what OU faces this coming Saturday but more about the ridiculous line of questioning he gets when he has to face the media.

This is classic Stoops. If you could see some of his halftime on-the-field interviews as he heads to the locker room you would get a better feel for what I am talking about. He thinks the interviewer is wasting his time and the questions are incredibly stupid. His demeanor with the press is a running joke in Oklahoma.

I watched Butch Jones' Monday press conference and the two are night and day from each other. Jones gives detailed answers to the questions, almost too much information; but much more accommodating and respectful. It is well known to OU fans that Stoops has sort of a running feud with certain local reporters who cover the OU football beat, most notably, John Hoover from the Tulsa World.

Bob is highly thought of and respected by the Sooner fandom, notwithstanding his prickly demeanor. He is the winningest coach in OU history and that's saying something. The program is the only one in college football with 4 coaches with over 100 wins each in their careers as HC in Norman. He's won 9 conference championships and one NC and has competed in 4 NC games. He's won all the BCS bowls and has a winning record vs Texas, Nebraska, Florida State, Alabama, & Oregon to name a few. He runs a very clean program and he is a players coach. His assistants love him for the family atmosphere he creates. With all this the fans pretty much cut him slack when it comes to his testiness.

Personally, I think he's the best HC OU has ever had because the times in which he has coached are so much more complicated then when Wilkinson or Switzer were in charge.......from recruiting to scholly limits to the demands today's players put on a program, Bob has done an outstanding job.

Some worry that he has finally run the string out. History pretty much validates that he is at a point in his career when both Wilkinson and Switzer started to lose it. But, he is much younger than they were at this juncture and his recent hip replacement surgery seems to have put him in a much better frame of mind. I expect him to leave OU on his own terms. He has been too good a HC and the way he turned the program around after the miserable 90's was nothing short of miraculous.

Penalties will be prominent again due to a young Oline. False starts and holdings will occur. They just need to avoid the other penalties like blocks in the back on special teams and things of that nature.

We too had a coach who had hip surgery. He no longer coaches here. Unfortunately he left on terms of about 5 million $$$$. Sorry that's where those comparisons ended.

i dont care what anyone says it will be a rowdy, bloodthirsty crowd there Saturday. Gonna be the environment we have been waiting to have back for a decade. I was there for UF in 2012 and it was awesome for 3 qtrs. But that was 2012. This will surpass all of that. Its gonna be an incredible atmosphere. It'll start early and it'll boil over at 6pm. Freshman all over their OL. No run game. First road start. The decibals will be high.

Stoops was at Florida during the late 90's so I don't think we will surprise him with the atmosphere in Neyland. Hopefully he underestimates the affect it will have on his players tho.

If you go to soonersports.com and watch the interview you will see that his time at Florida was brought up and discussed at some length as it pertains to Neyland. Notice how Bob doesn't dwell on that experience. He is all about tomorrow. He simply doesn't dwell on the past, hence his short abrupt answers with little if Amy embellessment. Trust me, he knows full well how tough a venue Neyland is.

Bob Stoops is an EXCELLENT COACH....No one can dispute that....and being "testy" with today's pencil-necked geeks masquerading as reporters is understandable...he knows that those guys and girls may make him a hero today, and then turn around in 7 days and call him an idiot.....and they know absolutely NOTHING about the fundamentals of football.....

CBJ seems to attempt to cultivate a good relationship with the press--and guys like Stoops and Saban do not.....Who is more likable? CBJ of course!

But in the end--ALL of CBJ's attempts to cultivate friendly relationships with these goobs will amount to nothing if he doesn't produce the Ws! Those guys and girls will be deriding him in the "name" of good and objective journalism if he doesn't get it done on the field.

Nevertheless--I hope we pound the Sooners into the ground and shut little bobby's mouth! GO VOLS! :salute:

Venue may play a part when it's a lower division school coming in that may be a little intimidated already, but I don't think it really affects the big schools too much. Bob is pretty sensible and genuine. Hope he has a long miserable ride home from Knoxville.

You know, guys, I could not care less about what Stoops thinks about the coming Neyland thunder. I am interested in how rattled that seismic noise might rattle his PLAYERS...his QB, offensive line, etc. What that can do to a nervous 20-year-old kid when it's money time is why we scream and stomp, right?

That's why I have always done it, at least. I want them to feel the field shake beneath their feet and in their lower intestines.
