Shut Up and Drive

I personally think the new car has hurt Nascar. The races are getting more and more boring. The new car is so sound, its virtually impossible to wreck them. Its a good problem for the drivers/teams but bad for fans. IMO but I think many agree cause I cannot help to notice the large number of empty seats showing up at many race tracks now.

I side with Edwards too. Weren't there were similar aero complaints with the old car? All I know is, this is the most exciting the racing has been in years. Plus,I'm sure there will be improvements made to the cars handling as time goes on.

Boring to me was when only 3 or 4 cars had a shot to win like the last few years. Now we have real competition. I think the COT is on the right track.

It's easy for Edwards to take that stance seeing he has won three races already. I thought the idea was to always strive for a better race car and to continue and improve the product so I don't have a problem with guys pointing out flaws with the car. If they all talked about how great the car was than it would never change. If they bring up issues with the car than maybe NASCAR makes a tweek here or there to make it even better. I liked the old car myself and thought it had the ultimate safety device on it called a brake pedal.

I liked it when only 3 or 4 guys had a shot at winning, those were my guys. :)

I don't think the racing is all that different from what it was with the old car. The aero push is still there, making it hard to pass and side-by-side racing non-existent. The problem is the cars are still going too fast to take away any aero-dependence. As long as the speeds are up like this, the aero-dependency will still prevent cars from passing and limit side-by-side racing. If I were winning half the races like Edwards, I probably wouldn't have any problems either. But to me, it's not that different from the way the old car raced on these 1.5-mile tracks.

What's most annoying about that is NASCAR specifically said this new car would take away that aero-dependence and it hasn't happened.

:ermm::snoring: The racing at Martinsvile, Bristol, and Daytona was pretty good. But all the 1 1/2 and 2 mile races have been a big bore. Exciting is tha last word i would use to describe the racing this year. I enjoy side by side close racing not spread out 2 second gaps between positions on the track with lap cars inbetween. In the past some of the best finishes have come at ATL and TEXAS. Even with a GWC finish edwards won by over a sec. I am glad to see him winning, I like him. But the overall product is boring.

Edwards won easy but there was plenty of close racing behind him at the finish. Racing was boring and predictable on these tracks in the past. Now Nascar just needs to work on some of the boring.

Boring......Empty Seats.........This is what happens when a company stays in one family. It eventually gets to the person that doesn't have any business running it. Brian France is a joke of a CEO, or whatever his official title is. Too bad a guy like Bruton Smith can't run NASCAR, he has good business sense and a love for motorsports.

I have mixed feelings just as the drivers do. One thing I am certain of is that drivers are complainers by nature. I have dealt with them as race promoter, race official, and driver, and no matter what you do, there will be complaints from someone.

I tend to go more along with Carl Edwards, it is the same for all, if you cannot handle the job, maybe you aren't supposed to be in this league. I have to think these cars are much easier to drive than the old true stock cars of the past, and you never heard those guys complain about the cars. They were just appreciative of having the ride and just drove them.

On the other hand, I want to see close competitive racing. It seems to me I remember talk last year of how the COT was going to make aero-push a term of the past.

I agree, drivers complain alot. But alot of the veterans are the ones complaining and that should get NASCAR's attention. I don't care if they want to complain as long as there is closer racing that promotes a better show. I couldn't sit through the whole race it was way to boring. I pulled it up on foxsports.com while I was playing poker on line. Looking at the times on line is actually pretty cool. It's live leaderboard shows all 43 cars with their lap times and time or laps behind the leader. You can see if your driver is catching cars or being cought.

Veteran drivers are most experienced at complaining, the newbies are just happy to be there.
