the same guy who "leaked" out the surrier rumor is now saying nick saban. that guy dont know. I dont see alabama hiring a tier 1 football coach I dont see many coaches willing to leave where they are now to take over a job as crazy as the bama job.

Again I say........moderately succesfull mid-major head coaches, or assistants looking for a first HC job only need apply.

Nobody else wants it.

Who would want it? Those people are nuts. How many coaches does this make them in the past few years. Shula is a Bama boy, imagine what they will do to an outsider.

The Alabama job isn't anywhere near as nice as it was 10 years ago. Boro hit the nail squarely on the head.

Spurrier would make sense, except he likes SC.

Chizik is a good choice. Mike Leach would be a candidate.

In the end, Alabama fans will praise the hire as the one moment when Alabama football came back. They've said it for 6+ years now.

One thing is for sure: Alabama is going to be good next season regardless who they hire. They have a lot of young talent that will progress well. If they hire SOS, they will be a darkhorse NT contender.

Some guys on this board talk like Spurrier is the best coach to ever step on the sidelines. I don't have the exact stats, but I would bet he has won about the same number of games as Fulmer, and I know he has the same number of national championships. I, for one, would not be scared at all to see him at Alabama. He is a good coach, but so are half the coaches we play year in and year out.

I do not know right off the top of my head and it's not worth my time to look it up, but he also had the best talent in the conference. He is a very good choice, but he is not as good as some people make him out to be.

It's pretty hard to argue against UT having the best talent in the conference.

When Florida ran off their conference championships, the talent level was not close between Tennessee and Florida. And you also have to consider who he is beating out when he plays us. We don't exactly have Neyland on the sidelines...

UT had plenty of talent to compete with Florida. Who has more players currently in the NFL?

South Carolina week, there was a story that pointed out they were almost dead even in number of SEC wins. I actually think Fulmer was slightly ahead. Those are the kind of numbers though, that don't really make a strong case for anything except longevity...

1. spurrier won 6 SEC titles; 7 if you count the probation year 1990. That covered a 12 year stretch. CPF has won 2 SEC titles in 14 years.

2. During the 90s TN put more players in the NFL than FL. It was close, however. Some years TN was a little better, some maybe FL was.

3. Spurriers SEC wins include coaching at SC.

4. The debate is laughable it is so one sided. It's like comparing Brian Bellick and Bill Walsh.

Yep - he lost to UT and he would have done a lot of things, but he didn't. His last good year in the SEC was 2000 (10-3) and before that it was 1996. He never had an undefeated season. Those numbers would get a "firethecoach.com" website from some UT "fans".

So I say - I hope he goes to AL.

As long as Saban and Spurrier turned down the job, which is very likely to happen, we are good. This mediocre UT team can't bear anymore impact. I still believe we need some serious change.
