He received a new six-year contract in May worth $1.55 million per year. The deal extended his contract two years through early 2012, with a raise of $650,000 plus a $200,000 signing bonus.

so, what kind of coach will Alabama get now? Chuck Amato will probably work for cheap...

No way they pull the plug like this on Shula, unless they've got their guy in the bag. I am beginning to believe that Spurrier is a real possiblity.

What would a big fish do to this rivalry? Ugh.

if SOS goes to Bama, we're all in trouble. My guess is that his ego couldnt compete with the bear's memory.

I just hope and pray it's not coach Cut. He is from Birmingham and played LB at Bama where he graduated in the class of 76. I guess you could say he is from the Bama family.

let cut go if it comes down to it. cut it just an above average qb coach. if they wind up with cut over their top two supposed choices in SOS and saban, i'd be delighted

Jim Dunaway(Birmingham sports guy) was on Rick and Bubba this morning and stated that both Saban and Spurrier had turned down the job. He was talking about the Navy coach possibly being offered the job along with various others, but NO big name guys. Unless Bama gets a big name they are in serious trouble in my opinion. They screwed up once by getting rid of a coach before having another one named, I can't believe they have done it again??? People in this state will not let go of the Bear....I work at a sporting goods store, and when we got those houndstooth caps in all 80 were sold in like 2 hours. They are obsessed with the guy, no one is ever going to satisfy the Bama fans.

CMS signed his own walking papers when he refused to make any staff changes at season's end. I just don't see SS leaving USC to come here...though I'd love to have him. I think Petrino or Johnson is a more realistic hope. Good luck in your bowl game.

I have posted before . . . I think Paul Johnson would create some serious headaches if he got an SEC job and brought the triple option with him.

I'm not sure if he will bring that option with him, but I would like to see how he does at a big name school. If he does bring the triple option, we must immediately tell Chavis to figure it out or find someone who can.

That could be, I read on one of the Bama sites that Bryant Jr's plane has left for Texas this morning. They were speculating that it was to pick up the new coach and bring him back for an announcement.

Of course, they were also speculatiing it would be Mack Brown or Coach Fran.
:lolabove:

Todd Graham of Rice makes a lot more sense.

You are exactly right hamp. While tressel wasn't the "big name", but it was clear to anyone that tressel had the coaching talent to lead a big team. That's the question, who can Bama find like tressel who is willing to leave. It could be said that Petrino or Shiano would be considered a "big name" because they are proven winners

I got a chance to talk to Paul Johnson at length a couple of years ago on a trip to the Atlanta Airport. Trust me - he is married to the Flexbone. He ran it at Hawaii, he ran it at Ga Southern, he runs it at Navy.

That's not good for us, if he does go to Bama.
