Quick hitters

-It was a tough day for quarterbacks with the conditions, but overall Notre Dame commit Everett Golson (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) was the most impressive. One play, he looked off the defense and threw a bullet for a completed slant to Patterson. That was probably the best pass play of the day. North Carolina commit Marquise Williams (Charlotte, N.C./Mallard Creek) and Tennessee commit Justin Worley (Rock Hill, S.C./Northwestern also had their moments. Williams says he is still a Tar Heel, though there continues to be buzz about a possible switch to Virginia Tech.

-Tennessee commit Pat Martin (Greenville, S.C./J.L. Mann) is playing safety in this event, but his long-term future may very well be at linebacker. He is outstanding in run support, has instincts and enough coverage skills to be great at the position. One SEC assistant coach compared him to former Vols standout Al Wilson a few months back.

All kind of buzz about Martin to LB these days. That is an interesting development.

Martin compared to Al Wilson?? Wow, that's a hell of a compliment. Wonder who said that?

hmm. I mean obviously we need lb's. espcially speedy ones with good coverage and tackling for wilcox's schemes... But if he isn't a db, then I wouldn't mind taking another one... Like the black mamba.... Sorry. Wishful thinking.

Most of the LBs Chavis brought in were Safetys in HS.

People keep saying Dooley wants bigger LBers, but the only reason they would need bigger LBs is if they truely are going to a 3-4.

Paul is allegedly much smaller than listed. That was the main reason SEC schools started backing off of him.

Yes Al came in as a safety and grew into a great LB. It is not uncommon in CB for HS DBs to become LBs, LBs become DEs and DEs become DTs once they finish growing and spend a year or two in college S&C program.

According to Scout 6'0, 198 lbs
Rivals list him as 5'11 196 lbs
So if they want him to play linebacker he and Bray need to room together and EAT, WORKOUT, and REPEAT until they can't do anymore of either.

Please...depending on his frame, a 5'11/6'0 growing from 196 to about 220-230 is easily doable in about a 12-18 months in a college S&C program.

Bigger LBs then we've been playing the last few years would be nice even in a 4-3. We've been short on talented depth for a few years now and thus forced to play best available regardless of ideal measurements. Hopefully going forward we'll have the luxury of options amongst properly sized and talented LB prospects.
