Showing respect for players

we do look like morons on national tv leaving the game before half time and booing our team at the half. we weren't acting too professional. i admit that i booed the coaches going into the half, but the players can't see who my eyes or cupped booing hands are pointing at. i feel bad now that i understand that the players thought we were after them. that's not cool with me.

SEC football is all about passion, emotion, competition, combativeness. I could go on. Fans with passion for their team are part of what makes it the best FB in the country. Better a booing, passionate fan than one who sits with his thumb in a dark place and just "grins and bears it".
Oy...these kinds of posts are what I'm talking about.

No, booing does not equate to a passionate fan. It equates to a fan that wants to vent his frustration. Period. Again, you guys are coming up with absolutely ridiculous rationalizations. No, booing doesn't make you "passionate". No, booing doesn't mean you're helping the team in any way. All it means is that you were frustrated and you're venting to make yourself feel better.

Again, I understand that many of you are going to boo to vent. But for the love of God, please stop with all of this ridiculous rationalizations of it as though there is some grand or noble ulterior motive to it.

When the team starts playing badly, people would rather vent / boo to make themselves feel better about spending hundreds to see a loss than to practice any kind of discipline, so oh well. That's life, and that's how it's going to be at pretty much any SEC school.

That performance yesterday deserved booing. It's as simple as that. Even Phil agrees.
It is interesting to note that so many of you think CPF is a general idiot, yet are gleeful when an idiot agrees with you. Wouldn't you prefer that he not be on your side?

Guys I am not a Tenn. fan and have been on here a few times just to lurk The reason I am posting is it is crazy to go out and boo college kids is flat out uncalled for, now whether you were at the game or watching on the television, these kids signed up to go to a program to play football and get an education. They are not getting paid millions of dollars and shrugging off losses. Have some respect for these players win or loose they deserve to be treated better than that, some of these guys are using the only way possible to obtain a college degree, so back off with the booing and relax. I want my team to win as bad as the next guy, but at the end of the day it is just a football game. You will win some and lose some, but life brings tougher times than loosing a football game.

You dont believe in having competitive sports among young kids because it isnt fair to those kids who lose, do you. Seriously, they may be college student/atheletes, but they are still adults and I think that they can mentally handle it

LOL @ a simple boo being "classless". Guess the entire stadium is classless when boos rain down on the opposing team. It's a simple show of displeasure. I'm amazed at how some of you bleeding hearts can even sit through a game without crying or trying to run down on the field and give a guy a hug when he gets hurt or makes a mistake.

You guys continue to say they are just kids...if they are just kids, why in the world are we paying $100 a pair minimum to watch these "kids" play a silly game? I can go watch kids play for alot less than that anywhere.

As was stated earlier, these are the same "kids" we send to war. Oh, just because we can see in person how things affect them, it makes it different?

Here's an excerpt from an article on govolsxtra.com today...

The boos weren’t as easy to deal with as the loss. As Giles and UT quarterback commitment Josh Nunes sat together, they both grew concerned about fan reaction to UT’s offense.
“That kind of bothered both of us a little bit,” Giles said. “Why would your own fans boo you?
“I felt pretty depressed. I hope I don’t get any boos anytime soon.”

Were they at the same game?

I wish that, sometime around the 3rd quarter, one side of the stadium would have started chanting, "Fire," followed by the other side chanting, "Fulmer!"

Eric Berry was playing his heart out on Saturday. Many times it looked like he was the only one who gave a crap. He was flying to the ball, and would come from out of nowhere to make a tackle. I really feel bad for the ones like him who are truly giving it their all.

As far as the boos, that's going to happen because this kind of playing is not acceptable here at UT (or at least it shouldn't be)! The fans are FED UP!

Don't play like crap and you won't.

This is crazy! It's like we've crossed over into bizarro world where no one has ever booed or heard a boo when it was deserved. Weird!

Booing your own team (coaches) in your own stadium is about as low class as it gets.

I've booed a bad call by the officals before but have even sworn off that for the duration, booing is like a cancer and it will do us no good in the long run, as a matter of fact it will end up being very detrimental.

I was and am still pissed off about the VOLS' performance on Saturday, but I still couldn't make myself boo the players. I'm still behind the team and hope they turn the ship around.

I can understand why people would boo, but I don't think it helps the situation any.

So, what is the consensus on here? We don't boo, ever? Instead, we clap and cheer regardless of the play? We take a Fullmer attitude of clapping our hands on every inept play that occurs? (This seems more detrimental to me.) When was the last time you heard ANY fan base cheer for their team when a major mistake was made? How many more times will the fans sit by and accept giving away points in the redzone? We have no right to boo a play that should have resulted in 6 points, but instead resulted in a turnover, a play that probably has been run since the first day of training camp? Or should we just sit in silence? I believe we have the right to express our feelings any way we wish. I guess those of us sitting at home booing are off the hook though, since our boos don't reach the oh-so-sensitive ears of the poor helpless players.

the fans deserve to boo. when our great university's football program is no better than a mac school.

I believe the boo's were directed at the staff for blowing the 2 min game plan at the end of the first half (for the second week in a row). How can the players developed when the coaching staff is sucking it up so bad? It’s the way you look at it. Doc Phil says you see the players messing up and then hear the booing and you think we are booing at the players because that’s what you see. But unlike Hamilton we see it at a coaching error and letting them know they (THE COACHES) are performing poorly by booing. The way you think or see things merits you a job on that pathetic staff!!!!!!!!

im not sure if youve checked lately but it cost alot of money to go to ut and get a college education and these guys are getting a free ride, so basically these kids are getting paid to play football. If you come here to play ball you should know the tradition and expectations that is required and the way they have been playin is not even close. As a fan knowing what is expected, paying big money for tickets and doin some traveling to get to the game{as high as gas is) it is unacceptable. I dont put all the blame on the players because i think most of it is the coaching but these kids are playing with no passion or heart besides a few(eric berry, gerald jones, elix wilson, and maybe a couple others) this program and us fans deserve more
