Shouldn't the clock have ran at the ready for play whistle with 1 second after a

I questioned this too. I will be honest though. I was at the game and it looked like the refs were going to make sure UNC won no matter what. It felt fixed. Not bad reffing. Fixed reffing.

I agree. But the big ten refs would say that unc did a quick snap as soon as they wound the clock so they got it off in time.

So is Mike Slive waiting until after the National Championship game to publicly defend UT getting screwed or what?

Thats irrelevant as well.

Bout the only thing they got right in the last 30 secs. was when the referee call "game over".

So 12 players in formation, 18 on the field in total, and at least one coach on the field is a 5 yard penalty? I'm pretty sure Les Miles is making notes to use this clock management strategy next season in one of his end of game time blunders.

by the NCAA rule all you need is 2 people on the field to stop the clock. Sure it's a 5yd penalty but very useful if you have no more timeouts left and need a score to tie/win

Pardon my not reading the whole thread, but if the offense spikes the ball while having too many men on the field or committing some other infraction there should be a clock runoff like in the pros.

should be but ain't be

kinda like there should be a launching rule in college but there ain't :whistling:

I think this will be and should be changed.

There should be a steeper price for having to burn your TOs. Currently there is a loophole that should be closed.

Question 2 -

I didn't think a penalty could carry over from regulation to OT or OT to OT. Has this rule changed?

Oddly enough, I believe the rule changed so that it could carry over in response to what happened in the Tennessee-Kentucky game where our guy was pulled down by the facemask in OT.

don't think that's true because we had one carry over when Arian Foster threw the ball against USCjv (delay of game I believe)

Most aren't but Vol fans everywhere know there's at least one that is.

The penalty was never reviewed. The flag was thrown for too many men on the field; it should have been for illegal participation, but it wasn't. Only the spike was reviewed to see if time was left.

Just wanted to stop by and let you guys know that was a bs call. You got hosed, and your coach handled it with class. I hope they do close the loophole.

Wouldn't even be an issue had Midget hit the extra point. I hope they offer the kicker from Calhoun, GA. Kid is a stud.

His point was that the way they confirmed it was a replay review. Illegal participation is reviewable.

The review didn't confirm the penalty, it "confirmed" whether or not time expired. If the penalty was reviewed, surely the booth would have seen 12 men in formation and walked off 15 yards instead of 5, that is, unless the booth can't change the penalty. I still think with the snap in process with 1 second left, it is impossible to ground it and still have 1 second left. The snap with 19 seconds left took 3 seconds, and that wasn't reviewed. Go figure!

I dont think penalties are reviewable. Atleast that is what has been said before. I think this was botched by the officials, but still we are not having this conversation if Lincoln could get the kicks higher. I said early in the game that he was kicking it way too low. It ended up killing us. There have only been a couple of guys that I liked to see graduate. Lincoln will be one of them.

Yeah, the missed EP was brutal, but that still does not dismiss the negligence of the referees. If anyone of us preformed that poorly in our jobs then we would be terminated on the spot. However, as the last year has shown, the NCAA is as poor as the UN in its performance as a governing body. Its a shame that those officials will keep their jobs and its a shame that we will not be awarded the bowl game because of them.

Probably not, but we still don't know what would have happened if NC needed a TD because they would have been down 4 points.

Folks we can argue about the calls all day. The fact is it was a bad call the rules suck. The NCAA can review it and find it was a bad call and all that will be said is well were sorry were only human. Or they can find it was a good call, no matter what is found it still doesnt make it better. Tennessee always plays the teams and refs.

Agree with this. NO game has ever been overturned even if it was found that a bad call was made. Get over it. It is over. NOTHING can or will be done. Move on.

So, we didn't have 13 on the field against LSU then. Thanks for letting us know.

flags were thrown for that...they reviewed to see how much time to put back on the clock. the refs through the flag but with the yellow endzone paint it was hard to see. if there is a video on youtube from that game watch the official at the very top of the screen. as soon as the ball is snapped he throws his flag.
