Should We Remain #1?

It happens every once in a while. The "powerhouses" in cbb get the benefit of the doubt sometimes. I didn't understand the Vandy situation though.

No way should we stay #1. We got our shot, we took it, and then we blew it. Nothing we can do about it now except win in March and finish the season #1. Memphis deserves to be #1 again as they have beaten some quality OOC teams and have the best record in the nation. UNC should not be #1 yet as Lawson hasn't returned. Until he returns and starts playing well, then UNC surely doesn't deserve to be #1 no matter what the homers say. I think we deserve to be #3, but I could see us falling to #4. People have convenient memories.

In the middle of the season, Vandy moved up a spot after we beat them.

I remember that, although I thought it was 2 spots. If that wasn't the case, then it was Ole Miss the same or next week that moved up 2 spots after we handed them their first loss. Very strange. It's like when someone loses to us, they act like we super studs that are unbeatable. But when we lose to a good team, we will drop like 5 spots while Duke can go 1-2 in a week against super weak teams and only fall a couple of spots. Politics are alive and well!

But they didn't stay the same did they? Uh?

Were you making the point that a team that loses should not keep the same ranking? If we follow that line of logic shouldn't it be ludicrous that a team should move up after a loss? Isn't this a classic example of having your cake and eating it too?

Seriously Tenn T just admit that it was the exception that proves the rule and move on. That was a pretty odd statement don't you think?

I personally think that is ludicrous unless the team somehow beats two higher ranked teams the same week they have one tight loss (which didn't happen), or a team goes 2-1 for the week and like the 5 teams ranked ahead of them lose more games (which also didn't happen). I find is pretty ridiculous myself. But it's also a little different at the top of the polls as oppossed to the middle of the polls. My problem with it is that we beat them by freaking 20 points and exposed them, yet they get rewarded. I think people give Vanderbilt too much credit. Yeah they are good at home, but they have a huge advantage no matter what people say.

I wouldn't think the Vols drop any further than 4. I believe We might get 3 in at least one poll. We should lose Our #1 ranking, just as Memphis did. If We Win out and Win the SEC Title outright, We have a good chance at being #1 seed going into the Tourney. 2 of the next 3 are in Knoxville and the other (FLA), We hung 104 on earlier this season. The Vols should take care of Business!

We should drop to #3 overall, period! But there is a good chance we will be #4. I could see us falling to #3 in the poll we were unanimous #1 and fall to #4 in the poll that gave UNC some of OUR first place votes. Winning out the regular season and at least making the SEC championship game should ensure us a #1 seed. If not, we can pray Texas or Duke will be the #1 seed on our side of the bracket.

Top teams in the country deserving of #1 seed...

UNC, the best if Lawson is healthy

Kansas, but they have Self coaching so expect a choke in the tourney if not before

UCLA, damn good, well coached, and experienced

Tennessee...can play with anyone and expects to win when the ball is tossed up, experience in tourney is lacking and I for one think that plays a part.

Texas, great point guard = wins, plus Barnes takes a back seat to no one.

I am not a memphis hater, I just don't feel they are a #1 seed and I beleive Calipari has same troubles as Self.

Sleeper, and everyone is the country is waking up to this...Louisville. Be interesting game tonight with N. Dame.

Duke, UConn, etc are #2's, possibly IU if they win the Big Ten, but more likely a 3,4 or as low as a 5.

It ain't football time in Tennessee yet but March is a pretty exciting time too.

Louisville and Tennessee just seem to have that bit of swagger right now, like the gators of 2 years ago," we can play with and beat anybody" which is a reflection on both teams coaches, i.e. Pitino and Pearl expect towin every night, when they do lose you see this look on their faces like, "Man how did that happen" then a grimace that says "It ain't going to happen again!"

Who really cares about the polls right now anyway??? We just need to win to secure a #1 seed in the tourney. The rest will take care of itself.
We are not an elite BB program yet so we have no favoritism in the polls and I think this team, when healthy, can run with any team in the nation. Tenn has probably the strongest and deepest team on the court but we have to play smart. I think our schedule will benefit us in the tourney but everyone has to step up and not take a game off.
Yeah, what he said!:clapping:
