Should we have given the Chief a chance?

Should we have given the Chief a shot at HC?

My dad always said not to argue with idiots because sooner or later, you end up sounding like one too...so I will pass on commenting

I fail to see how someone starting to spark a discussion and trying to gauge other fans feelings on a topic would make him an idiot. I didn't see him posting that he thought it would even be a good idea. I voted no, but that doesn't mean that those who posted yes are idiots in my mind. Keep on being a jerk, though. It suits you.

idk bout him as a HC but he is a heck of a DC, i wouldnt mind havin him as a DC or someone on his level.that said i havnt givin up on CJW yet

Agree, if Chavis doesn't have a head coach micro-managing him. That's the key let him run the D!!!

There is a reason that Chavis has never been offered a head coaching job in college!!! The reason is because he has reached his full potential as a college coach and that is as a defensive co-ordinator.
He was offered a defensive coaching position with the Redskins one year and a defensive coaching position at the Falcons. Never offered a head coaching position on the college level though.

Watching John Chavis succeed (this year) at LSU, are there any vol fans out there that think we should of given John Chavis a chance at HC?

No. I liked the Chief but not the 3rd & Chavis. Glad he's doing well, elsewhere. He walked into a good setting and they have good players; we will too but it takes time to recruit players when you're basically starting over. No instant gratification seekers allowed.:birgits_giggle:

Regardless whether or not he was a good D Coord, we needed a change. A real change. We tried using other OC like Sanders and *gulp* Clawson, but it didnt change anything. Had to clean house, and I believe we did the right thing. Plus, lets not forget that Chavis wasnt the best recruiter, and with him as head coach, even more recruiting pressure would have been put on him.

Chavis is a great DC. After growing into the job his first couple of years, he has done nothing but excel since (the 3rd and Chavis stuff is a myth).

I think he was pursued for some HC positions at smaller schools, but turned them down. I think Chavis is a proto-typical coordinator, and to his credit, I think he knows that.

Now, a lot of posters on here would be lamenting the yards his defense gave up yesterday when his team delivered an absolute beat down without understanding naught about football.

Why are you such a douche to everybody? If somebody asks a question that you do not agree with, then they are automatically stupid in your eyes. If you do not like the thread topic, then I would suggest that you do not even open it. Go Vols!!!

CDD is probably the best thing to happen to Tenn football in a while.

I wish that we would have hired Dooley right after Fulmer left. Think about how much farther along the program would be, but oh well cant change it now. Coach em up Dooley!

Mustang tonight when he was up made Geno Smith look like Andrew Luck. Tightened back down wen the score got close and killed him. That safety 25 yard cushion and 4 man rush made a great defensive front look like ours for a while. No, thanks.

Lol, nothing really has changed much has it. Players make coaches look a lot better than their schemes ever do.
