Should we have given the Chief a shot at HC?

Watching John Chavis succeed (this year) at LSU, are there any vol fans out there that think we should of given John Chavis a chance at HC?

I've been posting on these boards for a few months, and lurking for about a year, and I'm already extremely tired of this stuff.

How do some of you guys who have been here longer stand it?

It never would have worked.
You hire Chavis and he keeps most of the coaching staff in tact.
So much for a coaching change and new blood.
It would have been like Fulmer retiring and naming Chavis as his successor.

idk bout him as a HC but he is a heck of a DC, i wouldnt mind havin him as a DC or someone on his level.that said i havnt givin up on CJW yet

My point is that success as a coordinator does not always translate into success as a head coach. There are different skill sets involved. If Chief doesn't recruit well (I've heard that others did that part of the job for him) and isn't a good manager of personnel (don't know about this aspect with him), he probably wouldn't be a good HC. With his track record at coordinator, you would expect him to receive offers if Athletic Directors valued his skills in those two areas.

Great coach thats for sure! John Majors always said Chavis saved Fulmers Bacon! Although Fulmer will be a first ballot Hall of Fame Coach!
