Should we be concerned about recruiting players with a possible lame duck coach?

My concern about the current situation is that since Fulmer is on the hotseat, then recruits might be reluctant to consider TN.

Tennessee is Tennessee. There are a lot of reasons to come here to play, not because of Fulmer. Whatever new coach we may get, will be a top shelf coach.

It absolutely kills a years recruiting to can a coach at the end of the year. Not saying ours will be great now anyway. I imagine alot of the guys we have commitments from might start looking around again.

I think we should be more worried about getting recruits when 50-70000 fans leave a game at halftime

The more time we waste, the further behind we will fall.

Get the new coach in and have him show us what he can do with the players that are here and those who have committed.

To add to that...

It would be very interesting if Vol fans would have the patience for the program to go through more lean years while a new coach installs a system and rebuilds with his recruits coming in and starting right away over established players, well... the few established players we have.

We wouldn't suddenly be world beaters, if we are as bad as everyone believes we are.

well they better; 7-8 out of 10 times, it takes about 2-4 coaching changes before you end up on one that gets your program at the level you want it to be...and if you think your fans think you should be at national championship calibur, well then your going to go through more changes than that (see bama)

Exactly. That's why I say that everyone needs to think that through before reacting. I'm on the side of making a change, but I don't take it likely.

Longer you keep it headed downhill the longer it is to get up off your feet.
Alabama didn't have all world talent when saban got there. You don't need it. It helps but its not neccessary. If you instill dicipline and basic fundamental football skills.
Heck vandy's proving that.
Bad product being put on the field by our coach's and ad's office.

Yes, but players don't automatically transform overnight. It usually takes 2 years to break the bad habits and adjust to a new system... and this team has a lot of bad habits.

Sometimes they can win right away, but usually not. Not to mention that Alabama was one game over 500 last year, and I still predict that they'll end up 3rd in the West.

if you were a recruit would you want to play at UT or maybe USC, Florida, LSU, Bama, or UGA?

It depends on which coach I felt believed in me, and which one made me feel like I belonged.

I'd want a coach who I felt wouldn't bail in a year or two, and were I good enough, I'd want to feel that I could progress to the next level.
