Should Tennessee Worry if Appalachian State Hangs Around?

Big difference between Bowling Green ( Bowl team ) and Appy State. Big difference in talent and depth of Tennessee this year compared to last year. I think you will see a very aggressive Tennessee team this year!

UT should go up by 35 and then clear the benches. Don't show anything else about our offense and don't risk injuring anyone that we're going to need in Atlanta.

Agree to a point. This is the team Butch has been waiting for. Put them down and put the foot on their throat. No more Mr Conservative. No quarter given. No mercy.

I'm waayyy too fired up for Appy St.

Should there be worry? Absolutely not. Will this site be full of the usual whiny, fire this coach and that coach, we suck and we will be lucky to win 7 game type threads? Of course it will. I fully expect App St to perform better than most think. We will win but it would not surprise me at all to see them hang around. There is no difference in winning by 3 or 30. A win is a win.

Lots of people said the same thing about Bowling Green.

BGSU was damn near an air raid team. This ASU team has all new receivers and prefers to run. They aren't alike at all. Their style of play is sort of like ours. It may take a bit but the flood gates will open up eventually and UT will blow them out.

I agree with your sentiment, but I believe App State went to and won a bowl last year as well.

I'll be hanging around regardless of the score. I've always stayed to the very end of the game ... bitter end or not. :good!:

They should let Appy State hang around as long as they want to. Buy em a beer on the stripe, let em watch the fireworks at the bridge, take em bar hoppin downtown, show em a dang good ol time...and send em home on the wrong end of a 50 point shallacking.

Hang around here long enough, and you figure out the posters who know what they are talking about...and those who don't.

Tennessee is the more talented team, by far...at home...veteran offense...veteran defense...and solid special teams. UT has play makers on offense, defense, and special teams...Shoop is a difference maker...Dobbs and the WR's are going to surprise people this year...and Butch has proven what he can do with extra prep time.

Appalachian State is not, by any means, a "gimme". Fact is, they are a solid G5 team. They deserve more respect than they are getting. They might make this a close one.

Except that they won't. First half, maybe. Second half, a walkaway for the Vols. UT covers.

No insult to App State, but they have simply had the misfortune to be standing in the mouth of the cave when the bear finally comes out.

Go Vols.

They're starting a whole new group of WR's and they're at a huge disadvantage on the line. Tennessee will be just fine, that win vs Michigan 9 years ago might just be the worst thing to happen to college football because every year some crack pot puts out an article not to overlook the hippies from appy state.

Well I am going to disagree. I feel anytime a poser like Michigan gets beat like that is good for football.

However, that means Tennessee has to prove at every turn they are not posers.

Bowing Green last year would blow out this App St team. Easily.

I know this is awful logic, but last year App State crushed Georgia Southern (31-7) and Georgia Southern murdered Bowling Green in the Go Daddy Bowl. So I wouldn't be so sure about that.

Wrong. Tennessee doesnt have to prove anything against App state. The Michigan game is meaningless.

You are correct thats terrible logic. The transitive property doesnt work in football.

And I'm aware. Still don't think it's reasonable at all to say Bowling Green would have "destroyed" Appalachian last year. We definitely could have beat them. But this also doesn't mean Appalachian is going to play Tennessee near as well as Bowling Green did last year, at least not on offense anyways. Give me our defense over theirs all day long though.

Ruling on the Field: Should Tennessee Worry if Appalachian State Hangs Around? - Vol Sports Radio

I agree with Barrett on this. Appy State does not have our talent but they are a veteran squad that's well coached. Even though I expect us to win big I won't be shocked if they can keep it within a few scores.

So if the game is closer than expected, just back away from the ledge. We will be fine.

It honestly would not shock me at all if they stay within the Vegas line. First games of the season are exactly just that. Offense's aren't sharp,QB/WR timing are still not fully in sync, there tends to be more dumb penalties such as timeclock with of game penalties, false start, off side, players and in particular ones in their first game not getting lined up correctly and various other first game mistakes. Those things happen every year and have as long as football has been around but luckily for us we are a veteran team and won't be relying on guys as much who are playing their first college football snaps. If this was game 3 or 4 I don't think Appy St could keep it within 40 or 50 pts but anything and everything could potentially go wrong with any team in game 1. Luckily it's their first game too unlike when Mich plays Hawaii Sat it will be Michigan's first game but Hawaii already got first game mistakes over with last week. Haven't even looked but curious who Cal plays this week with them also having already played last Fri.J just checked and they picked a bizarre time to already have an open date. I would have made sure I played somebody and used it to my advantage.
