Should Martin be given an extension?

Martin is a good man but an average basketball coach. I wouldn't give him an extension after that bone-headed last play decision he made last night. 99.9999 of the coaches in the history of basketball get the ball to McRae or Richardson when you need a basket to win it, but he decides we need to get it to our center 14 feet from the basket--to do what? Make a nasty cross-over dribble and beat three guys off the dribble? So we end up with our two best players watching Stokes trying to win the game way away from the basket. TOTALLY Dumb. Martin is not Wade Houston terrible but I can't really see us making any real noise with him. We had some genuine talent this year. We certainly have the potential to get in the tourney occasionally with him, if he recruits, and that is job one.

Armchair is right for your name because you have no clue what you are talking about.

It was a great call. Stokes should have got to the line. If not for the foul he would have scored and he had the kick out to McRae if he couldn't get a good shot.

Sad that you do not understand.

According to Basilio CCM was offered an extension/raise but he hasn't signed it yet.......

Funny thing is, if he left some of these same idiots would A) trash him for bailing on the program even they wanted him to go and B) whine about our AD when the best we could get to replace Martin is a no name.

Don't care who they get, or whether Cuonzo stays for that matter. I just don't want them wasting money on a marginal sport that could be better spent on football.

Or retained for that matter...

SEC run:
14-20 South Carolina
14-19 Miss St.
14-16 Auburn
15-16 Vanderbilt
23-12 Missouri

Play in game:
20-13 Iowa - 1-7 in their last 8 games

Tournament run:
24-9 UMass
27-9 Mercer

Which win impresses you most?

Mercer did our dirty work by beating Duke. I'd put money on Martin losing to Duke. He loses to just about every team that's better. And is it true that UMass was seeded incorrectly?

I want to believe in Martin but why is anyone impressed by this run?

People want to compare it to Bruce making it to the Sweet 16, but last time I checked.. Bruce actually beat good teams. #1 Kansas with half the team suspended and #1 Memphis for starters. Also, 3-1 vs. Florida during their back to back title runs if I recall. He also got Tennessee to #1 nationally. Averaged top 5 attendance...

This is not a call for Bruce back. This is simply pointing out that UT has the resources to be a power house. What's impressive about this run? I'd like to know. Our front court was bigger than everyone else and we beat bad teams. Put Stokes and Maymon with 3 guys off the street and they'd still beat Mass and Mercer. Am I missing something about why this run is impressive and Martin should be given extension?

You should be more concerned about whether he returns or not....you folks that signed the petition and groaned about wanting Martin gone are going to have the nightmare visited on your heads...Pearl at the Barn and Cuonzo somewhere else while we putter around and hire a low mid major coach to replace him. Congrats.

I believe he has earned an extension, but I'm a little giddy about a raise to anything higher than 1.7 million. I was completely shocked how he was able to turn it on with his back against the wall and make a run. However, we were 8-0 against teams with an RPI of 39 or worse and 0-2 against teams with RPI of 38 or better. I think he earns his money next year.

This is so true....LOL....We have met the enemy, and he is us....

Like Cuonzo Martin?

That's the problem, guys like the armchair's of the world get heard more than those that actually support the coaches and program. The armchair's of the world need to drink a tall glass of STFU and keep their non-credible opinions to themselves.

Basilio is a guesser.

I normally would agree but another caller "Big Will" broached the topic of the new unsigned contract and Tony stated he didn't wan't to elaborate on the subject but then he finally chimed in on the subject. Maybe he will discuss it some more tonight.

Why do you bother posting in our basketball forum then?

Because he's one of the mentally challenged individuals that feel they just have to let everyone know what their opinion is on a matter, even if it's something they can't stand.

Kind of like the OP, who after the US lost in Olympic hockey felt the need to go into the Olympic thread and proclaim how glad he was Olympic hockey was over and how boring it was.

It was stated on Basilio's post game show last night, via info derived from his UT sources. It was also stated CCM contract would increase to roughly 2 million per season.

Gotcha thanks. Was looking on his site and twitter and couldn't find anything.

If true, props to Hart. Really didn't think he would bump him that high, shows a commitment to Martin that should help ease the tension. Also gives hope that he is very much committed to have a good BB program.

Josh Richardson will be in the same group next year if he keeps playing like has has the last month.
He is the person that sparked this very good run, imo.
