Should Dooley go ahead and start Bray?

It seems there's a lot of immature and ignorant people on this board that just assume that Bray is the QB in waiting. Until he can outperform Simms, he will warm the bench. Don't assume that Simms won't be our starter next year, so there's no reason to think that Bray will start any time this season.

Bray was hyped out of high school. A lot of our QBs have been overhyped lately. I'm not ready to see him take the field until I can see that he is more mature and more capable than Simms.

I like what I'm seeing from Simms lately. He is more mature and able to hold up under pressure better than Crompton did. He just needs to learn to read a defense better, but his arm is there and his accuracy is good for the most part. Also, he's been smart about turnovers. He's missed some dumb reads that have resulted in a couple picks, but he protects the ball when the O line breaks down.

We could do a lot worse than Simms. He isn't a huge playmaker, but he's not reckless either.

Yeah let's start Bray right before we go on the road for the first game of the season against LSU, he will do great behind our seasoned offensive line and flawlessly executed fundamentals.

For the love of god people, there was like one drop that was a receiver's fault yesterday. It isn't their fault that Simms can't throw it to them instead of over their heads or behind them.

Uh... No. Zach Rogers is carrying on the family tradition of-- ball hits hands=ball hits ground

He had the one I was talking about. Bottom line, in all this searching for a positive, people have somehow decided that Simms played well and the receivers screwed up. No, Simms played okay about half the time, and the rest of the time he looked exactly like he has so far this year.

Simms is showing flashes. Unfortunately, our total lack of an O-line yesterday has a lot to do with the bad passes, the stuffed runs, and general disarray on offense.

Simms is not the problem with the team. Lack of tallent overall is the issue and you might as well give Bray at least a year to learn and bulk up before putting him out there. Red shirt him and let him learn this year and maybe next year as well as get some tallent in there to block and catch.

No.

If Bray goes in and gets beat up and rattled and does terrible his freshman year, his career could likely be shot, especially with how harsh our fan base is.

A lot of quarterbacking is mental, so if that confidence is gone it could hurt in the long run.

Normally you wait to play the underclassmen when it's clear you won't make a bowl game, now that's after you lose 7 games.

My impression is they are planning to redshirt Bray and not play him. I know Bray did play against UT-Martin, will that prevent a redshirt?

5 passes (drops) hit dudes in the hands. Simms will overthrow and underthrow a few, but dude literally plays balls out.

The reason Simms is starting is because he got his ass beat for most of the 2nd half, but still stayed in the pocket, in a second OT, and delivered a strike to win.

There are ways to get around it.

Wouldn't be a smart move. It wouldn't fix our problems on the O-line.

As great as the idea of getting Bray snaps sounds, with the current situation up front, he'd be shell shocked by the end of October.

My understanding is yes. Any playing time disqualifies a player for a redshirt. If someone knows something I'm missing, please let me know.

My take on Simms...not the worst QB around. I think he throws his passes with too much zip, with too little touch and accuracy. To improve is reception %, his throws need to be on target, centered where the receiver can prepare himself to lock onto the rocket pass. Passes a bit high or left/right are quite difficult to catch.

Until Simms puts a bit more touch on the ball and improves his accuracy...."expect more drops by receivers." I am less inclined to place blame on the receivers for the drops we are seeing.

I'm not bashing Simms. I think he did good yesterday. He can't help it if his WRs don't catch the ball, but since this is a rebuilding year and we aren't expecting much, why not just go ahead and get Bray experience since he'll be our starter down the road anyways?

NO! That would be one of the worst moves that we could make.

Why would you sit the guy with a 127.99 QB rating, 6 TDS, a 2:1 TD:INT ratio, and who has gotten progressively better?

if the OL doesn't start giving simms better protection, we are going to see bray playing sooner anyway.
