Should Dooley be fired?

Should Dooley be fired?

As I have said many times, I don't expect to win every week (especially with this bunch of players) but I do expect us to compete. Getting blown out 3 times in a season is unacceptable.

i cannot believe this is even a thread, Dooley is a good coach, sure we loose but so does every other team that doesn't win, in 2 years watch this team will be the **** and the ppl that said fire dooley will be srry!!!

I don't think Dooley is much more than Mike Shula or Ron Zook, but you can't fire him now or anytime soon. We need him AT THE VERY LEAST to rebuild this roster to a full team that can win 7 games. If a change needs to be made then, so be it. But until this roster is back to at least full of 3-4* players, no coach anywhere will touch this. Dooley is not Nick Saban and we aren't as lucky as Auburn is with Chizik. Just ride it out and endure...

Your expectations for this staff with the current roster greatly exceeds reality......

we shouldn't expect discipline, the right number of players on the field game in game out and a recruiting class that is at least in the top half of the conference? Because we have not met any of these expectations.

They need to get him a staff that he can work with.

Namely a new offensive coordinator. Chaney worked wonders in the Big 10 ten years ago, but that ain't the SEC

Some have said Dooley should be fired by the end of the year.

Others have said he deserves at least 3 years to bring in his players and build from it.

Im not saying Dooley should be fired, im saying for those who think Dooley should be fired, justify your reasoning.

So with that being said, what are YOUR thoughts?

Pearl should be fired. This post is ridiculous.

Time to start working instead of all this "balance" with the coaching staff. I know it is just a job to these guys, but it is a passion to us fans. Our worse loss ever to bama does not cut it. WORK HARDER Dooley and staff.

Wasn't the worse loss to bama.

Looks like the people have spoken. We may have a few that know what's going on. Besides who would want Hamilton hiring another coach? Yeah think about that one for a minute.

This is probably the best argument that can ever be made for why DD should not and cannot be fired yet. If he continues to suck as a HC though, a change will have to be made, if not at the end of next year then certainly the year after. UT can't survive 3-5 years of sub-.500 football and recruiting sub-SEC talent.

I don't really understand the argument of people who say stability is more important than having a qualified head coach. It might be a little worse in the short term, but in the long run it would be a win to get the right guy into the job sooner rather than later. But honestly, we're looking at a 2-10 or 3-9 season anyway, so it can't get THAT much worse.

I didn't vote based on the choices provided. Any of those choices at this point in time will lead to more of what we have seen this year.

Dooley has to have 5 years. Anything less than that will make Tennessee even more unattractive to coaches. We will be constantly pulling mid-level coaches trying find a Jim Tressel.

Absolutely not. 5 years of crappy recruiting and 4-8 seasons will kill this program for good. DD deserves a little time for now, but 5 years is WAAAAY too long. We should have a pretty clear idea by the end of next season what we're in store for with him as HC.

I voted the 2-3 yr option, but I do believe Dooley will be our coach until, at the very least, the end of the 2013 season.

Since there are this many of em on here already, I might as well add my worthless opinion to the mix. I think Dooley will be coaching here much longer than the minimum I stated above.

As for the posters who say the Vandy and KY games are automatic this year, at least consider this. KY beat SC after they beat the team that just mauled us.

For whoever said it isnt lack of experience, depth or talent, check out how many games experience our OL had before the year started and then count how many SEC caliber DT's we have on our roster. Hell, leave out the SEC caliber. How many uninjured DT's do we have? And I don't mean 250 lb DE's we moved to that position either. Then name all the names you would have on your 1st team All SEC team. How many are from TN?

Should Dooley be fired?

For what??? For keeping it close for a half against the defending National Champions? And then ultimately losing in a game that everyone was saying we had no chance in and would be a blowout? The idiocy of this fanbase never ceases to amaze me. People that feel this way should just go ahead and jump on the Auburn bandwagon now.

Yes, we should expect discipline, 11 capable players on the field and great recruiting but as I said expectations for this staff with the current roster greatly exceeds reality. IMHO DD was NOT a good hire. Don't really care for the OC and how he calls the game. Our DD can't count and seems clueless on how to resolve that problem. We have young team without a lot of talent or depth being coached by what so far appears to be a very inept staff....hired by a more inept AD. Not calling for DD to be fired yet but I AM DONE with MH.

Apparently no one realizes that I didn't intend to make it sound like Dooley should be fired. I'll admit that im not happy with the way our program has fared thus far, but I realize its a rebuilding process. Hell, you cant expect to win against top notch teams when your 20 men short of the normal number required for a football team. As for someone not considering me a true fan, thats ridiculous. Me, unlike most "true fans" stayed the entire game during the bama massacre. I have bled Orange and White ever since I was a little kid and I dont plan on stopping now. When I said that this thread is meant for others perspective, I meant it. So dont make me out to be the bad guy.

won't be a reasonable timeframe but I can see that fans won't be that patient.

He needs two full recruiting classes that are entirely his 2011 and 2012 classes to gauge his recruiting capabilities.

Needs time to allow those recruits to mature.

IMO, that equates to 5 years but I won't quibble if it is obvious after 4.

If he gets boot after 3 we might be headed to rotating coaches every 3-4 years like many programs do... maybe not, but that is a risk...

Even a thought in the direction of firing Dooley is absolutely ridiculous. I love the guy and he WILL be successful at UT. :good!:

If we fire Dooley after this year it will get even worse than it is now. If you think the Vols stink now, let them lose even more players and have some of them playing for their 4th head coach in 4 years. We have already seen the struggles of changing offensive coordinators every other year. The only way it would make any kind of sense to fire Dooley is if a coach on the level of Nick Satan, Chip Kelly, Bob Stoops, etc. came begging us to hire them away from their schools. I really don't see that happening. I know it sucks to be a Vol fan right now and having teams like Vanderbilt, Kentucky, and any team from the ACC feeling sorry for us right now. We still must hang in there, give Dooley some time and wait and see what happens in a few years. I mean if nothing else, we will at least get a war history lesson every few press conferences.

All I want to know is when is DD going to hire a secondary coach ?
Other than that I think DD gets 2-3 years to rebuild this program. If he gets fired this year, all thats going to to do is set Tn back even more.

Fire Mike Hamilton now, and if we don't start to see at least some signs of improvement by mid season next year, a search for DD successor should start.

IFFF a replacement for Dooley is deemed productive in 3 years for gods sake have a guy picked out and pre signed befory the plug is pulled. If you are going to fire a coach you must have his competent replacement (with full resume of success and championships) ready to step right in ALA bammer and Saban.
That idiot hamilton not having an "exit strategy" for firing Fulmer is where a lot of this mess stems from.

Our situation is akin to being a boxer in the ring and facing a fresh opponent every three rounds. We are at a fundamental disadvantage and will be for 2 - 3 more years, perhaps longer.

BAMA and USC lost 15 scholarships in 3 years at the hands of the NCAA. We saw how that contributed to BAMA's demise. USC’s probation has yet to play out, but I will wager their Win / Loss ratio declines. Any takers?

WE LOST, WHAT... 20 SCHOLARSHIP ATHELETES LAST YEAR ALONE? What do people expect?

Impossible to judge Dooley at this juncture; glad to see the majority voting to give him time.

Listen you impatient sob's (southern baptist) ....... I knew this would happen. even ST. John cannot save this mess in less than 2-3 yrs.- give coach D. a break - he is a good and intelligent man.--- get off his buttocks--- Want vindication and blood- fire Mikey Mike Hamiliton!!!!!!!

Well, we'll have to wait until Skip Holtz or Steve Spurrier, Jr. is available. That seems to be the strategy: hire someone with a famous football father, and hope like heck that the magic rubs off. If not for that stellar thinking, we wouldn't have hired Kiffin or Dooley and would be in Year Two of The Great Rebuilding vs. Year One, Take Two, already talking about Take Three.

I can't believe this thread is even up. It should be replaced by a thread asking if the fans should be fired. The first time I get to sit on the 50 and I see nearly every fan on almost every single critical down situation sitting on their hands which being squashed by their butts. That's the ones in Orange. The rest of the one's in orange sold their tickets to Alabama fans who were more than willing to help their team take over our stadium. It was an embarrassment to see so many AL fans in our seats cheering and so few of the ones left giving up. How is our team supposed to excel and not play to the end when the fans behind them will not even help them at the start????
