Jonathan Crompton is the best quarterback for the University of Tennessee right now. No matter which way you cut the cake. His play hasnt translated yet, i understand that. But, I know first hand that he has all of the intangibles to give us success. The road NS has taken us on has not been much better. So, why not let the guy who has the most POTENTIAL to finish the season and get his mistakes out of the way. This season doesnt have much hope left anyways. Also, if he plays against a poor Wyoming, this could be just what he needs in the perspective of confidence.
What about Coleman? I mean can he be any worse than what we have now ? At least give him a shot , we have nothing to lose anyway .
Its kind of hard to believe that someone so heralded coming out of high school can just suddenly not be able to play football. You guys on here sure did praise him enough. Why? Because that was the thing to do ? No, because we all thought he was going to be a dang good qb. He has too much upside not to play. When yall were on his bandwagon that seemed to be evident.
Why not to play Crompton
1. Can't HAND OFF
2. Consistently throws low.
3. Has no touch
4. Has no pocket presence
5. Has poor accuracy (high % of passes in dirt or bleachers)
6. Stares down primary receiver
7. Unable to check down through progression
8. Demonstrates poor judgement on when to throw ball away, when to tuck and run, when to slide, when to challenge a linebacker head on after you've already had a concussion a few weeks earlier.
no point in continuing
Exactly!
Just like everyone else, I wanted Crompton out after the Auburn game. We got what we wanted with Stephens and he is playing as well as he can. Unfortunately he is a backup quarterback, and I'm assuming was recruited to be just that. Having him on the field has done nothing positive for us, if anything our offensive production has gone down (every week we continue to slide further back in the total offense rankings). Crompton's poor performance was through continual mistakes. Stephens lack of production is because he just doesn't have top level skills. I would rather go with Crompton's POTENTIAL and hope that he can get it going, than go with Stephens who has it going and just isn't good enough...
1. Handoff on fault of qb AND rb
2.Throws low due to set depth of linemen. (Happens to NS as well, and would happen to Coleman)
3. Touch needs work
4.Best pocket presence of the qbs. NS actually steps into the rush.
5.Back to the scenario with the linemen.
6.How can he get to 2 or 3 with little to know time plus hands in his face?
7.Thrown more balls to rb than NS. ie. pass to Creer that Creer fumbled.
8.Needs work
I dunno I say play Berry--I cannot watch either of them
if anyone deserves a shot at some pt it should be coleman. stephens and coleman are the future for now and should get the snaps. sorry crompton, but you have had your chance and have shown that you can't get it done as a starter and as a backup. so if anyone should transfer it should be you. maybe to dII.
I will say Crompton looked better last week than normal which is to say, he looked a little bit like a football player. He seemed to be smarter when depressed. He does have better pocket abilities then Stephens, he can throw on the run etc--But in the end he is slightly retarded--and in retarded I mean not to insult anyone with a down syndrome relative--I mean it in a much worse way.
I have thrown with EB, and he can sling it a little.
lol. i was by no means saying to put him in the game. That would be a terrible mistake. I was just throwing out a simple thought.I seriously that would have had the result you hope it would. Playing QB, learning the offense, getting on the same page with receivers, reading defenses, and simply having the arm strength to throw good passes takes more than a few days to pick up. Berry is incredible at what he does and practices every day - playing safety. He might even be somewhat effective at receiver but not as full time QB.
