Should Butch issue statement?

Only one reason to leave UT for VaTech and that is strength of schedule. If that appeals to any potential candidate, let them go.

I would bet Butch stays if given an opportunity to change jobs.

He needs to worry about winning out right now.

With all of the media outlets putting Jones in Virginia Tech's top 5-10 coaching lists and with the majority of their fanbase believing they will lure Butch away from Tennessee, should he come out and issue a statement?

Should Hart offer more money now? Would he go? Will he at a minimum at least listen to his dear friend, the AD at Tech?

What are your thoughts?

Why in the world would he go to Va.Tech? That would say, I know I'm an inept coach and can't hack it in the SEC, so I ran for my life.

I don't believe that Butch is foolish enough to leave behind the roster that he's built at TN as they're about to become very experienced upperclassmen. If he's that stupid, then he'll never have on the field success at TN anyway.

I do believe that he will use it as an attempt to leverage even more compensation out of it. But he should stop listening to his agent and instead go all in that he loves TN, reiterate that TN is his dream job, and that it's ridiculous to float around any rumors that he is considering leaving TN. He would build up so much good will that in the long haul would be far more valuable than squeezing TN and it's paying customers for a better deal than he already has (and all the while having a below .500 winning percentage at TN).

If Butch wants to keep playing the gimme a raise and more job security game before proving winning on the field, then call his bluff this time and hire Chip Kelly when the Eagles fire him. Then Kelly walks into a cupboard stocked with his kind of players (kind of). Not sure Kelly would ever recruit a 240 lb. RB...

Butch isn't writing the click bait articles. No proof at all that he is playing the "gimme a raise game".

Are you serious? Last 45 years. Coaches we've had in the past 45 years - since 1970:

Bill Battle 1970-1976 (59-22-2) 71% winning

Johnny Majors 1977-1992 (116-62-8) 63% winning

Butch Jones 2013-present (16-17) 49% winning

So, since 1970 you still think Butch is our 2nd best coach we've had?

1. Fulmer
2. Majors
3. Battle
4. Kiffin
5. Jones
6. Doofus

I don't base everything on winning percentages like most people. Although I think if given enough time the wins will come. He's the first one that I can stand to watch for an entire press conference. He is also extremely organized with an attention to detail. I remember many past games, esp. UF where we looked silly on special teams eventho the announcers remarked the team worked on it every day. We don't seem to have many penalties ( requires coaching and attention to detail). He seems to be the most well rounded as far as relationships, training, PR, etc. To keep from making this TL DR, I'll rephrase it and say I like him the best of all the coaches in the last 45 years not that it matters who I like. So far, overall I like him the best. Can that change if he screws up , of course.

He could easily end the speculation though. Or maybe he's offended because nearly $4,000,000/year isn't fair.

There is no real speculation. Even if there was, a token denial never does anything to stop speculation and rumors. Some dude with a twitter account makes a connection because he has no info, Butch should respond to that?

Logic is the word of the day. Does anyone think that a coach would absolutely bust his ass for three years building a program, and as soon as it is on the brink of competing for championships, leave to start all over again at a weaker program, in a weaker conference with less resources, less talent, less tradition, and facilities that don't compare.

Sounds like some folks in this thread already have their mattresses in the window. Settle down. It's not bad that another school might want your coach. Folks acting like he's already accepted it ... good grief. Nega vols gonna neg.

Btw. Butch is 11th in the SEC in salary at 3.6 million. We may think he makes an absurd amount but relative to his peers he is on the low end of the scale. Not saying he deserves more atp just stating a fact.

Who is flipping out? Where are these posts you speak of? Most think this is a joke

The only job Butch might consider would be Georgia. This rumor was started by two guys in ncaa forum who wanted to "watch the fun."

I would take both Fulmer and Majors over Butch . None of the others I care anything about . I think if we give Butch enough time he may move up on my list. WE will see though he has finish this year out strong and I think winning the east is the goal for next year . Anything less and he will be underachieving

Butch going anywhere is laughable. He'd only leave if he pulled a Cuonzo and felt threatened here...which is again laughable.

My goodness you people can't be serious. Anyone thinking that Lyle is going anywhere, and even thinking about giving him a raise needs to have their head examined.
