Tennessee does not shoot 3's particularly well. Unfortunately, this season they tended to fall in love with it to a fault and it has been a source of some of our worst play at times this year.

Today, Tennessee did not shoot 3's particularly well, either, but when we did shoot it well, we seemed to shoot with the most success on kick-out passes from the inside. IIRC, every three we made, save possibly one, was the result of either passing inside to Mamon or Stokes, or penetration by a guard, followed up by a kick-out pass to an open shooter. I think Reggie Miller even remarked on it during the game.

Is this the formula for UT 3-ball success?

Yep. Inside-out. That's how our offense works best. Teams are forced to double stokes leaving an open shooter for the kick out.

yes. especially Barton. Guys always make more shots from inside out. It's a rhythm thing and we didn't do it well earlier in the year

I don't think they have relied on it for 5 or 6 games now. They have figured out the concept of take what the defense gives u. And its beautiful to watch.

Inside out. And the thing is. I wanna wager that all but 5 of our threes were good looks that just didn't go down. McRae and Barton are our X factors for three point shooting. I can count on Rich as far as I'm concerned when it comes to the Trey.

Absolutely, I don't have the exact numbers in front of me, but as a coach, I know three-point shooting percentage increases greatly on a post to perimeter pass as opposed to a guard to guard pass or off the dribble. Aside from the point a previous poster made regarding open looks created by help defense and double teams, when a pass is made from the post to the perimeter the shooter is already faced up to the rim. That's why you see a lot of 3's made off of offensive rebounds. The defense is in a scramble, and shooters are shot-ready. When the pass comes from the interior, they are often room and rhythm shots.

Richardson made some great kick out passes when he drove inside tonight for open 3s. He and Stokes are MVPs of the tourney so far.

Mercer's defense is designed to force threes, we got good looks, just didn't drop. The scary part of our run has been that we aren't shooting well from 3, if we do get hot,
WATCH OUT!
