Shoop's Recruiting

Honestly, I was all about winning the SEC East this year, until Butch went out and hired Larry Scott and Bob Shoop, as well as proved to the players that he means what he says about culture and values by firing John Jancek.

Now I'm all about us winning not the SEC East this year, but the SEC. Period.

Go Vols!
What did jancek do to get fired that was against the culture and values Butch wants?

this would probably mean beating Alabama twice in the same year. Not saying it can't be done' but its a tall order. Hummm.. That would mean we have a two game winning streak going against them. I like!

Assistant coaches rarely stay in the same place for an extended period of time, especially the really good ones, because they are always looking to move up. But at this point in his career, unless it is to Alabama or Ohio State, I am not sure there are many stepping stones left for him in terms of a promotion short of a head coaching gig.

We could lose to them in the season and still be in SEC championship game to beat them there. If we take Florida and Georgia, hard to imagine how we wouldn't be the East winners.

3 last minute touchdown drives made the difference between 8-4 vs 11-1, which would have given us a shot at the SEC championship which gives you a shot at the playoff. Butch says he wants championships and champions don't do that 3 times in a year.

With 13 jobs in 26 years, Shoop probably won't be here when recruits are ready to play. I wonder how many potential recruits will recognize this.

I'm not sure why this keeps being brought up.
1989 Yale (GA)
1990 Virginia (GA)
1991–1993 Northeastern (DB)
1994–1996 Yale (DC)
1997 Villanova (DC)
1998 Army (DB)
1999–2002 Boston College (DB)
2003–2005 Columbia
2006 UMass (DB)
2007–2010 William & Mary (DC)
2011–2013 Vanderbilt (DC)
2014–2015 Penn State (DC)
2016–Present Tennessee (DC)

It looks exactly like how you climb the ladder to a top coaching position to me. Can you point to any of those schools and say he should've stayed there longer?

Tennessee may be the exception or another step to a HC position. Either way we win.

the dismissal of jancek was more about personal choices (made by jancek) than performance of defense.....

Link? Twitter's a big place.

I've yet to see anything more than some personal/philosophical differences between Butch and Coach J building to a change. There may be more to it, but I've yet to come across it.

This. If he is offered a HC position then it means he has done really well here. This is a great hire and I only see him jumping for a HC job now.

Penn St. maybe, but the writing is on the wall for Franklin and UT's program is on a much better trajectory right now.

How many years did Jancek coach for him and Butch just now figured out they had personal philosophical differences?

I'm a big boy...What did jancek do?...I know he killed us in several games but I've read things about his personal decisions and choices hurt his chances too..What was this...Maybe a hint and I can figure out...
