What kid of recruiter is Shoop and what recruits could he potentially bring to the VOLS?

He'll bring some good kid(s). :)

Look for some attrition in the ranks to make room for more recruits.

I suspect Kongbo de committed because he got wind of Janzek's firing. He was just keeping his options open. Shoop's arrival may bring Kongbo back.

As soon as west coast teams started offering Kongbo may as well have been de commited. Jancek having anything to do with it is more than wishful thinking. Not saying that Shoop can't have an effect on it, but all signs still point to a long shot.

Penn St fans are pretty butthurt about losing recruits, so I would imagine he has quite a bit of pull.

This is far and away the easiest school to recruit for he has been to, though.

I read that Shoop specifically had some excellent relationships in middle Tennessee from his time at Vandy. Combine that with the natural recruiting draw that comes from being a genius coordinator, and I think we can safely check the recruiter box next to Shoop's name.

I think Shoop is a pretty good recruiter. Some of their recruits were pretty let down. You know they aren't committing to James Jerk Franklin.

Kongbo decommitment had nothing to do with Jancek and had everything to do with offers from West coast schools which are closer to home. Could he come back? sure
But I think it has been discussed before that it had nothing to do with Jancek

VFL34 posted a few days ago to not worry about Kyle. He wasnt going anywhere.
The Shoop hiring may have had a lot to do with that, IDK, just speculation on my part, but I do know that I'm not worried anymore

Kyle has a serious chance to start next year opposite of Barnett.

Shoop is an ace recruiter in the mid-state area. The 2017 class is loaded with mid-state talent, with 4 in the top 150 alone.

It's pretty late in the cycle for 2016, but if Warrior, Brown, etc., are still actually undecided, Shoop could be the tipping point in our favor.

With 13 jobs in 26 years, Shoop probably won't be here when recruits are ready to play. I wonder how many potential recruits will recognize this.

Seems like we just had this conversation concerning Butch.

There are transitional programs, and destination programs. Unless you make the mistake of picking a douche like Lane Kiffin, Tennessee is a destination program.

Even guys who are looking to move up tend to stay longer at destination spots.

Shoop will get back to the head coaching ranks (he was last there at Columbia, where the Harvard-Yale game is considered a mega-match). And he might get back there after just one year at Tennessee. I'm thinking, though, that only happens if we win a championship this fall.

And that seems like a fair trade-off, getting the guy his boost back into HC ranks after him helping get us to the promised land.

I don't think it matters. Shoop's contribution will be to push the defense over the hump and move us to the top of the SEC east. Good roster + winning games = attractive for players and Shoop's top notch replacement. And most coaches blow through lots of jobs on the way to the top. Doesn't mean they don't eventually stay a while once they get there.

Honestly, I was all about winning the SEC East this year, until Butch went out and hired Larry Scott and Bob Shoop, as well as proved to the players that he means what he says about culture and values by firing John Jancek.

Now I'm all about us winning not the SEC East this year, but the SEC. Period.

Go Vols!
