Shoop's D

No. I think they'll fly around more moving forward. But, the App. State offense WANTS that aggressive, attacking defense. They depend upon it for their offense to work. The big runs they were getting came mostly from over-pursuit, which comes from aggressiveness absent of discipline.

And, they were certainly flat, no question. But, I also think they were a little shellshocked after getting a three-and-out and giving it back on a muffed punt. Then JRM gets the boot.

Do they have to get mentally tougher? Of course, they'll have plenty more adversity before the season is over.

The whole team was flat. As I said in another post: They may stink, but it's a week-to-week game. They certainly have the potential to be far better.

Either this was a learning opportunity or it wasn't. We'll see.

I am not saying at all that I am not concerned. But, it's a little early for Chicken Little.
Spot on. Their offensive system, with all of the misdirection, was designed to exploit an overly aggressive defense. They did a tremendous job executing their gameplan, and we lost technique a few too many times on their longer runs. Shoop will get it cleaned up though. I expect great things from this unit this year.

The D played terrible in the first half. They almost cost us the game.
Defensive backs are still NOT being taught to keep their eye on the ball. AS scored a touchdown on us because of this.
Actually, I was disappointed in every aspect of our game plan and execution.
If this is the best Shoop has to offer, then we are in trouble.
Play calling makes me vomit.

My wife knows more about football....
