[Taylor's] added more than 50 pounds to his frame, one that sounds like the kind Shoop would design and build from the ground up for a defensive end, if given the chance. "He’s up over 250 pounds," Shoop said of the redshirt sophomore. "He’s tall at 6-4, 6-5. He brings a presence off the edge. He has explosiveness, he has twitch, he has athletic ability."

And he's had a spring camp, at least through the first half of the 15 scheduled workouts, where his name keeps coming as much, if not more, than any other player on roster. “He’s still evolving at the position and learning how to play it, but he’s been exceptionally productive and once again had a good scrimmage (on Saturday)," Shoop said. "He came up with a couple sacks, a couple pressures at key times."

Now Taylor’s an imposing presence at 250 pounds, and he maintains he’s every bit as quick as — if not quicker than — he was at 200 pounds. Kongbo — who also has drawn positive reviews throughout spring camp — said Taylor has made plays all over the place.

...Kongbo said he’s also been impressed with freshman Deandre Johnson, a three-star prospect from Miami who enrolled at Tennessee in January. “As far as Deandre, man, Deandre’s gonna be really good,” Kongbo said. “He’s just got to learn a couple of things right now, but one thing about him is he’s really coachable and works really hard and is really good in the weight room. I’m really excited about him.”

Taylor reminds me of Brian Orakpo in terms of build and athleticism. While Kongbo has the potential to be a player like Jason Pierre-Paul in terms of measurables and athleticism.

If both these guys reach their potential we could actually IMPROVE at defensive end even with the loss of our all-time sack leader Derek Barnett.

I have to admit, the guy has completely transformed himself. Sometimes it's better to recruit potential. Coaches saw this guy had a frame that could carry 250.

I like seeing a lot of our guys working hard and taking this off season seriously. It shows a lot about Team 121. I love their attitude and work ethic. I feel better about the direction of the program knowing that they are hungry and know they have a lot more to accomplish. And I honestly believe we are seeing a big improvement in the coaching staff. The players seem to be responding better to the coaches and learning more to improve their skills.

I also agree that while we will miss Barnett and he cannot be replaced, if the DL is better across the line it will improve their play tremendously. It will be nice to have multiple threats and playmakers on the DL instead of opposing teams being able to focus on Barnett.

Love positive anecdotes, even when they have to be taken with many grains oof salt. To me, our best recruits have been the new coaches. If Butch will let them actually coach for the rest of the year and control his urge to micromanage, we might actually have a decent team this fall.

All of this assumes that these new coaches actually know what they're doing. Time will tell. I know we all wish them great success.

Rock, they'll soon be in your hands. Good luck.

Kongbo seems to be a more mature player this year. Hope he has it all together on the field, with that winning extra. Would sure be good to see Taylor showing out.

Kongbo gets pushed around by freshmen

I'm not extremely concerned about that, Smith outweighs Kongbo by 40 lbs. I know you do not want your potential starting DE being pushed around, but I think it was more due to the nature of the drill. Kongbo is going to use his speed and elusiveness to get around OLs, not so much his power.

Basilio's blog today (Tuesday) mentions an injury to Kongbo over the weekend. Anyone know the details?

The article was written by Patrick Brown's replacement at the Chatt T-Fp, Adam Cobb.

Not to sound dumb... But idk what that means or is... Please explain? :)

You will receive your fan card revocation papers in the mail soon.

Before the BatB, a reporter asked the team if they were ready when they came out of the tunnel. DT, a little too overzealous for the public said We Gone Whip Their F$$&+# A$$. Then the team went dirty and did exactly that. Instant legend with a free trip to coaches office for some extra "encouragement". ☺
