How many of you remember the promotion of Chavis? There was a tremendous amout of moaning and griping about him being cordinator! Then he was the greatest DC ever! Then we started losing games due to the mustang package and prevent at the end of those games! Then he becomes reveered after his tenure here was done!

What is alarming to me is that not only is our defense worse this year (and yes I understand injuries but we have been worse all year), but also the fact Penn state appears to be better without Shoop. If you attribute this to just a new scheme, seems like we should have kept Jancek for this year that appeared to be ripe with potential.

I'm actually amazed at the amount of excuses some on here keep making for our defense. Yes, we've had injuries, but that does not explain the absolute pitiful defense we've seen the last 2 weeks.

We gave up 740 yards, if you think having 1 LB back, 1 safety back and 2 DT's would have made a significant impact, then you are delusional.

So you dont thin having a healthy JRM, Tuttle, KMac, OBrien, TK and Sutton would have made a difference? So having one of the best LBs in the country healthy wouldn't make a difference? Ok then.

Also, arent we having to rotate backup OL into the DL rotation because of injuries?

Franklin/Penn state seems to be doing just fine without him. So maybe it wasn't all him that should have gotten the credit for their defense the last couple of years?

Actually, they are a bit worse. From 21.8 pts to 26.1. Also, 324 yds up to 373 this year. Not to mention 2014: 18.6 pts and 279 yds per game.

Doesn't excuse 744 yds, though.

It's the first year with his system. Give it til at least after next year when passing judgement on a DC change. I do anticipate a significant change in our bowl game with the practices that we will have to develop some players. His track record is beyond better than what Sunseri's was. Also there's a big difference between giving up a ton of yards, giving up a ton of points and winning vs. losing. Sunseri gave up a ton of yards + points and lost. Shop has given up a ton of yards + not near as many points and won therefore Shoop has had a better season than Sunseri.

"First year with his SYSTEM?" This is not rocket science, and Vandy and PSU had no issues in Shoop's first year. Explain that please!

What's funny is you people saying we won today because of Josh Dobbs were the same people that were calling for him to be benched weeks ago. It's almost getting laughable.

Of course it's going to make a difference, how much is the real question. This is the SEC and we are going to have injuries, so everyone needs to be prepared to play. We've definitely had more than our fair share this year and JRM is a huge loss.

I personally think what we've seen the last 2 weeks is more than just injuries. We had our entire starting secondary against UK until TK went down late. Yesterday, we were only missing TK in the secondary. That leaves us with 4 out - JRM and 3 DT's. Losing 3 DT's is significant, but what we've seen the last 2 weeks is abysmal defense. How can we look that bad with 7 starters on defense?

He had the game of his life yesterday and congrats to him for that but he should have been benched weeks ago imo.

Worse Def. Coordinator? I think with the talent Shoop has vs. what Sunseri had, Shoop takes the cake. Worst DC we have ever had in the past 30 years. No way he will be back next season. 750 yards vs. a team that had only won 1 of their past 12 SEC games, really?

You never had any credibility...so I won't say you lost any.

So you're saying there are reactionary, knee jerk reactions on VN? :eek:hmy:

Sunseri inherited a team that was in the low 30s in scoring D and made them dead last in that same category. And other than Brian Randolph, there weren't that many injuries.

Just curious what planet you are even living on.

Yes, we have sucked on D since the bammer game, but it's nowhere near as bad as Sunseri, and ... newsflash, we have won 3 in a row. Sunseri lost like 7 in a row.

Yeah, our 118th in rush defense and 98th in overall defense is fine.

Truth is, we have been bad on defense from day 1.

Can't win with some of you. People were worried he would do too good and get a head coaching position in 2017. Now he is not good enough and needs to be fired. Would benefit us to have just an average DC?

Average is statistically 60th in total defense. We are 98th. Shoop is below average this year anyway you spin it.

I Agree. I don't care if we are decimated with injuries no excuse for all the miss tackles, miss alignments, sloppy play and bad scheming for games and during games.

Shoop is the worst DC i have seen in a while. I would much rather have Jancek back any day of the week.
