Worse Def. Coordinator? I think with the talent Shoop has vs. what Sunseri had, Shoop takes the cake. Worst DC we have ever had in the past 30 years. No way he will be back next season. 750 yards vs. a team that had only won 1 of their past 12 SEC games, really?

Sunseri actually have up about 700 to someone like Akron oraybe Troy (maybe both). Sunseri is the worst DC inodern history. Shoop is maybe the most overrated

Not even close to the same..... Why do we keep beating ourselves up over this??? Our Defense was assaulted by injury this year. What do you want the guy to do?

I'm gonna hold out on Shoop, with all the injuries. Sunseri tried to change a whole scheme without the right personal in place.

It's the first year with his system. Give it til at least after next year when passing judgement on a DC change. I do anticipate a significant change in our bowl game with the practices that we will have to develop some players. His track record is beyond better than what Sunseri's was. Also there's a big difference between giving up a ton of yards, giving up a ton of points and winning vs. losing. Sunseri gave up a ton of yards + points and lost. Shop has given up a ton of yards + not near as many points and won therefore Shoop has had a better season than Sunseri.

Defense has been gutted with injury, it's not fair to make judgements over the last few games. Defense held tough early in the year when most were healthy.

I'm tired of hearing about the injuries. Yes that have some effect but we are giving up record numbers in rushing yards and total yards. If you are a "Mastermind" like everyone says you are you overcome injuries and still feild a mediocre defense. Florida has just as much if not more injuries as we did but they are still playing good defense. No excuse for the defense being this bad. 75% of the snaps today they snapped the ball and our defensive line is still trying to get set. We looked lost half the time. And I know it isn't a stat but if it was we would hold the record for TD's given up where the runner wasn't even touched.

Why don't you send Butch and Hart your resume along with the game plan you would use to hold opponents under 100 yards total offense regardless of who is hurt? :thud::thud::thud:

Oh, the old "send your résumé" post. How original!!

Butch thought he needed a change. I question whether you take a stacked defense and introduce unfamiliar schemes with a new DC. Didn't help that Shoop was given an open mic with the press. We were all overhyped by what he was selling. Could've been something special with fewer injuries. Teaching a new system and playing 2nd/3rd stringers is a recipe for disappointment.

Haha! I guarantee you I couldn't do any worse. For those of you using the " injuries" excuse, Florida just won the SEC East without their best LB and safety and held LSU to 10 points on their home field. Shoop has given up 1300 yards in the past two weeks against the juggernauts KY and Mizzou. Wake up and smell the coffee, any DC making $1M a year should be able to take 11 walk ons and play better defense than that.

Utterly amazed at all the apologists in here. Yes we've had injuries, but come on guys. We've given up 1,400 yards of total offense the last 2 weeks, with most of our starters and other injured players back healthy.....to Kentucky and Missouri.

We gave up 45 points and 600 yards vs TAM with all of our DTs healthy and fielding 9 of 11 starters. We've now given up at least 350 yards rushing in 4 different games and are approximately 110th in run defense in the country. Wake up guys!

Some how I must have missed where Missouri scored more than we did today... am I delusional? I thought we won! This has been Missouris M.O. all season put up yards but don't turn those yards into points. It's hard to watch and it's concerning but i don't care if they put up 1,000 yards as long as they don't put up enough points to beat us. The reasons for them putting up so many yards can be fixed.

Are you high? Our defense is decimated by injuries. Shoop is just fine.

There is no way you can say Shoop is fine. Maybe you can argue Shoop is like getting a "W" for withdrawing from a class, but there's no way he can get a passing grade of fine on this season.

Thank God for Josh Dobbs. Otherwise this would have been a very embarrassing loss.

Shoop has a track record of being successful. He's clearly a better DC.

But just as clear is he has underperformed this year. Yes, injuries were a big part. But Kentucky ran for 400 yards. Mizzou put up over 700 total yards. That's pitiful.

I agree that Shoop deserves another season to truly be judged, but even with the injuries is there seriously nothing else we can do to stop the run? I mean our defense looks atrocious. And I know we are missing a lot of DTs, but these teams are still beating us on the edge as well. It seems that there would be something we could do to at least limit the yards. I know there are a lot of teams out there that are far less talented then Tennessee and others battling injuries like us that still put a respectable defense on the field. It seems like the scheme is flawed. However, I also believe that it's not all on Shoop. The secondary under Martinez is garbage with no technique, fundamentals, or anything. How many times are our DBs not looking for the ball, out of position, and grabbing/holding on to the WRs. And we shouldn't even have safeties on the field because they are never in position to make a play and take terrible angles when trying to make tackles. I think Butch should get with Shoop and let him decide which defensive coordinators need to go and then let him hand pick who he wants and go get the best in the business. Then lets judge what Shoop can accomplish at Tennessee.

VA Tech 186 rushing yards
Florida 106
Georgia 181
TA&M 353
Alabama 409
Kentucky 443
Mizzou 420

Franklin/Penn state seems to be doing just fine without him. So maybe it wasn't all him that should have gotten the credit for their defense the last couple of years?
