Shoop is the difference

15-0?? Let's not overreact or anything....Jesus

I agree that its unreasonable to expect 15-0. Even Alabama doesn't do that. However, 15-0 isn't out of the realm of possibility. Team 120 will have a chance to win every game it plays.

I think the floor for expectations should be 10-2 and a berth in the SEC championship game. However, that shouldn't be the ceiling. This team can go 15-0. It has the POTENTIAL.

O.K. people, I'm excited to see what this guy can do, but what the freak makes you think it's going to work out yet? I haven't seen ANYTHING that says he is better than Jancek was. I'm not against the guy, but posting we are going 15-0 because we have a guy that , personally I don't know WHAT this guy is yet, and then to say it's all going to be roses his FIRST year, it takes coaches a few years ya know? Debord worked out because he and Jones have worked together so long there was no learning curve... I have NO IDEA about this guy yet. Get A Grip people.

Let the anger subside, man. Just let it go.

The guy has cautiously announced his involvement in the program yet and you guys got us going 15-0 and winning it all.. come on man. You have NO IDEA what he is going to do in the SEC. If he is a bust and we suck next year will you eat your shorts?

You were right in your previous post, YOU apparently have no idea. Some have an idea what he may do in the SEC since he's DCed in the SEC before, and very well, considering the talent he had at Vandy.

I'm not predicting 15-0, but I'm excited. Let us have that. How about it?

:hi:

So you consider Candy one of the big boys.:p

So you had no idea he'd coached in the SEC?

One could argue that he had success at Vandy in the SEC East when the East was down and for all practical purposes it still is.

On paper with the stats, he looks like a great hire - but that is not a guarantee of success at Tennessee and many of you are way ahead of the season. Coaches have to prepare for opponents. Players have to execute. Players have to be able to play (e.g. limited injuries or deep depth to overcome injuries).

And then you have all the coaching changes that are happening everywhere ... success next year is not a guarantee. A team can have the best coaches and players and still lose. It is something that the coaches and team must continue to work towards.

I sure hope that Tennessee does go undefeated in 2016 because if they lose one game, this place will self-destruct.

No. Well, no more than usual. There are three groups here.

The 15-0 crowd that will self destruct if we see hiccups.

The 0-15 crowd that negatively overreacts to everything and won't let even an ounce of positivity pass without a steaming pile of pew in the room.

Then there's the biggest group. We take a generally positive, hopeful, yet middle-of the road view and take the punches as they come.

Groups one and two are the two that self destruct. Group three is the largest. Group 3 is kind of hoping micro-groups 1&2 eat each other. Especially if that happens, VN will be just fine.

Don't crown him the savior just yet. Many of our defensive woes fall on the offense. In Oklahoma and Florida, we got too conservative and left the D on the field to long. If your going to protect a lead, you don't run an up tempo offense. But I guess CJJ was calling the shots on that side of the ball as well.

No but against Bowling Green, 4 of the TD's had our DBs out of position and the LBs took up the slack against Oklahoma in that aspect. DeBord order that up..."as well"?

Also, why is the offense's job to keep the defense off the field. Why isn't it the defense's job to get themselves back off the field with a 3/4 and out?

Looks like a good hire. The proof though is in the pudding. He has made more with less in his last two stops. The '16 Vol D will be the most talented he's ever coached.

Scout teams are critical to the chess match of football. When our players recognize, by formation and down and distance what is about to happen and they can run down hill at it or jump a route, that's when big plays happen. We have got to have faith in the players to let them gamble a little( if they get that gut feeling), to create the big plays that can bust a game open.

If we keep the same play book on defense, with better calls and execution, then we will be better.

Go Vols!

There were times when the O hurt the D. But would anyone call it more than the "norm" for most teams?

There are probably some purely technical reasons that contributed to the move. But I still believe that his leadership and relationships with players/recruits were a big factor.

For crying out loud. And I got some people calling me a negavol. Just because you have NO IDEA, doesn't mean that Shoop doesn't bring a much better resume, much better results as a DC to the table than Jancek did. We all understand that the ultimate evaluation of Shoop as Tennessee's DC will occur after ball games. But there's a reason why both LSU and Auburn tried to hire him over the last year or two, and for Vol fans to heed your warning and adopt your extreme caution would be to stick our collective heads in the proverbial sand. His hiring is a reason for great optimism (even if he will be coaching a defensive roster with nothing but freshmen and sophomores according to you....which of course is absurd).

Probably the best measure of a DC is how much immediate impact they have IMO. It speaks to their relative skills in schemes, preparation, and playcalling. Shoop's impact at both Vandy and PSU was immediate and significant. PSU allowed 100+ less ypg in his first season there compared to the previous season. It was just under a 100 yd year over year improvement at Vandy.

He had a rough first year at William & Mary but allowed 12 ppg and 16.6 ppg in his last two seasons before leaving for Vandy.

Obviously this doesn't guarantee success at a new job and in a new situation. But his resume is encouraging.

Alright I admit I know little about Shoop. So what will he do that Jancek couldn't?

Seriously? OK,let me make it simple.

Shoop went to Vandy, and handed Tennessee 2 consecutive defeats. In our lifetimes, how many times has that happened? Forget how far the Vols had fallen off, it is still VANDY! There were multiple reasons why they managed that, and one was having a damn good DC that did good prep, and had good game time instincts on adjustments.

I like and respect Jancek, but realistically, I don't think he could have done that.

DD, you just like to argue for the sake of arguing....Don't you?

Been there done that, bought the T-Shirt.

Personally, I am damn glad we got Shoop working for us now. :pepper: :pepper: :pepper:

Having him working against us? That was a nightmare.

I'll settle for being an optimist right now as Coach Shoop has not taught a practice yet and the players have not implemented his defense for a single play. I might join in the euphoria had our DC before last not set all those records.

shoop is the real deal if we would have had shoop against Florida last year id guarantee we win the game instead of having to live the nightmare of the cocontinued streak! streaks stops this year shoops defense shuts Floridas streak down!
