Said in addition to Reeves-Maybin and Kirkland, Colton Jumper at Mike LB and Sapp/McDowell at Will LB have started to separate themselves.

Shoops phrase today was "hunt the ball".

He mentioned Barnett (referred to him as "my enforcer") playing inside as well as possibly Kongbo and Mixon.

Coaching my friend. We will see a tremendous difference from last year to this year on defense. Coaching matters.
And thanks for the updates Fingers. You're the man.

I hope Jumper continues to improve his game. I'll take all the depth at LB possible. Seems that many have completely overlooked the fact that he played as a redshirt SO last season. Still has 2 years to play.

Plus, after 2 more years (plus Will's tenure) of payoffs to UTAD from his dad, we'll be rivaling Bama's coffer$. :birgits_giggle:

Obviously I’m no coach...

But I think moving Barnett away from DE is such a bad move. Having him and Kongbo on the edge with Mckenzie and Tuttle as big bodies in the middle, is an ideal D-Line.

Just my opinion though :loco:

Not a good sign for Bates that he is not even in the discussion right now...hope he can get healed and contribute before he leaves

It would just be their pass rushing package. Then you put some combination of Vereen, Lewis, Phillips, Taylor, Smith, etc on the outside.

If an SEC caliber LT can't stop Barnett.... what do you think he'll do to an OG?

If players are playing because of their family ties and family contributions.... then why aren't either of the Berrys starting?

So that somehow proves how much money he gives to UT?

I'm pretty sure Bill Bates is doing well also.

My point was simply that Jumper isn't the only kid whose dad could exercise that kind of influence if the coaches were susceptible to it. There are several others.

I didn't say how much he gave or didn't give. I was just showing who his father was, I think this is all preseason coach speak anyhow. I don't think Jumper will see the field outside of special teams this fall.

The players have mentioned Gavin Bryant, McDowell, and Q. Sapp as the LBs that have stood out. Haven't talked to any about Colton Jumper as you'd imagine.

I'll take some of that action...how much you willing to wager?

If Tuttle was healthy I'd agree. We need some more inside DL

So what's the deal with Bates? Has he been injured his whole time at UT like Gaulden or is he just a big bust?

That's fine. They can build him up as the best backup in the history of football. Sports in general.

As long as he doesn't start I really don't care.
