Shoop confirmed on campus

From one of the VQ mods:

"I don't know how it's a positive sign if he heads back today without signing anything. He wants to talk to his family about it so we will see what comes of it. I think there probably isn't as much confidence about this happening as there was yesterday. But, I don't think it's dead or anything like that."
Yeah, this is starting to sound familiar. If he leaves, he probably isn't coming back.

Anyone know what VQ is saying on the subject?

VQ morning update:

"Nothing has been finalized at this point. Shoop spent alot of time with the entire staff yesterday as we know. He was with some this morning early.

We understand he's leaving Knoxville at some point to head back to see his family and make a final decision."

Shoop is probably trolling us just like he did LSU and Auburn. He's probably trying to get another raise.

Yeah, this is starting to sound familiar.

Yep - looks like he's playing us for a pay raise like he has other SEC schools in the past.

May be time to start looking at the next best options - Chizik maybe or Hoke (at least these seem to be the other names mentioned most prominently on VQ this morn).

It may be my old, worn out eyes but I swear some of the tires on that plane look like they've been flattened so it can't take off.

Heh, Titan, I think you're seeing the chocks behind two of the sets of tires. They do look a bit like flat tires with plies peeling off, though. :)

So, he's not allowed to go back home and see what the family thinks?

No. That this is deja vu. He interviews with LSU. Goes home to talk it over with his family. He gets a raise to stay at Penn State.

I'd just feel better about it if the decision were made while he was here. Skype with his wife, or bring her here. I don't see the need to go back home unless he wants to see if Franklin will counter.

Unless he were a full-on cretin, he would have to leave temporarily.

Should be man enough to tell Franklin face to face.

Should be thoughtful enough to tell his players face to face, give them a chance to ask the inevitable questions.

Should have the family talk in the living room so that the kids feel they were consulted before being dragged across the country again.

It's just the right thing to do, him heading back up to PA one more time.

On the flip side, he has already shopped himself around before.
Hard to believe that if he wasn't ready to make a move, he would keep pushing his luck with PSU.
Talented or not, you can only return to that well so many times.

What's PSU going to do about it? Fire him? If he is in this big of demand, he can do it as many times as he wants. If PSU does not like it he can just leave and make a butt load of money somewhere else.

I agree with that, and I am big on doing the "right thing". I just hope it is true.

its closed.

there likely won't be a PC. There was not when DeBord hired. I expect an announcement at some point but who knows when. Probably when Butch is comfortable.

he likes playing to fans emotions. :)

If this is what he's saying, it's a done deal.

Franklin gave Shoop his first big break. He may be going get his family to bring them to Knoxville for the announcement on Monday and tell Franklin face to face. If someone has been good to you and helped you they deserve more then a phone call or email.
I just do not think he will be able to turn down this opportunity. Better players, better facilities, and familiar recruiting area.

Franklin needs Shoop bad. Hence the recent pay raise and large buyout. Look at the defensive rankings for Shoop and offensive rankings for Franklin since these guys have been together and tell me I'm wrong.

Spot on.
I believe many posters have a Dooley era hang-over.
UT is no longer in the position of having a breakdown because they can't get a date to the prom.

Of course it may just be less stressful for me. Seems a solid hire so I would like to see it happen.
However, if it happens, I won't be as "omg" giddy. If it doesn't happen, no plans of a meltdown or even worried

And then a meltdown mere minutes after this was posted. This place is awesome.

You would think posters would have learned to relax a little more given all the turnover in recent years.

Nothing is ever done until the official announcement is made from the school so why get worked up over it?

Shoop has only talked to LSU. IMO he is just going back to say goodbye in person like a man. We may hate JF, but JF gave Shoop his first big break.

But is Penn St. really going to pay him more then $1.5 million??? The just upped his pay to $1.3 million.

I'd say his family would play a huge factor. His son most likely has friends that live in Knoxville or even play here.... He'll be a sophomore I think??
