Edit: after today’s comedy I withdraw this entire message of optimism. I see no way this ends well now.

Seriously. Just for a moment put aside the working for a raise angle. Every agent does that. And right now Gundy is self represented I believe.

But Gundy grew up in OK. Played QB at OKST. Started coaching at OKST. Was only gone 4 years from OKST before returning. And has been HC at OKST for I think 18 years.

To pull him away from OKST would be beyond pulling Manning from UT if he ever coached here. Peyton isn’t from TN but I know he does live UT.

So don’t sell it short. We almost pulled Peyton Manning away from UT today. It was a good package at $$ and terms.

Agents have spoken to their clients as a result of that. Let’s let it play out. If they keep that offer package on the table for quality we should eventually land quality.

We almost pulled Peyton Manning from his alma mater.

How far did we get? We threw a bunch of money at someone who turned us down before only to once again use us for a raise to stay where he's at.

We must have the most incompetent and/or lazy AD/admin in the country. Every single coaching search we pull out the same worn out list, offer the same 4-5 coaches, get publicly embarrassed with the same rejection.

Stupid isn't it. Now talking about the SMU coach. He's another "well he was hot this year". Woo hoo. I'm awfully afraid what's gona happen is we are going to wind up with a coach who has little - or no - head coaching experience.

I wish someone would get Currie and Bev completely out of the picture, tell them they are being replaced, and they can stay until we find someone or simply resign immediately, both of them need to go.

$7M/yr would make any coach take us serious. The problem is they didn't act that way out of the gate.

Just think, if Currie had done this in the first place..........Tennessee would look a whole lot more attractive right now.......and he may have actually accepted.

I'm glad he pulled out.
Or we pulled out.
Whichever was the case.
A baby with a mullet is an ugly sight.
Even if it's 40.

I agree with all of what y’all are saying. But at least the offer has been laid on the table now. Somebody will reach for it.

The milk has been spilled. Just stare at it and cry or get to cleaning it up.

And fire Curries ass when this is over!!!

Edit: also reminder he didn’t get a raise here. Same money to stay. At the end of the day he could not leave mama. And I cannot fault this decision and thank him for at least seriously considering it. And guys he DID consider it. I don’t think I could do that to UT if I was in his shoes.

Him leaving would have been like Fulmer leaving UT in 96 or 97. Coaching at his own school and in his prime. I just never saw it happening. Would have been thrilled though

He will use it as leverage for his next OSU contract discussions. Go Vols!

Already happened earlier this year. That is why OKST came out and said they weren’t going to get in a bidding war with us. He didn’t get a raise.

He needed to make T Boone squirm and open up the wallet. He was going to string us along for as long as that took.

No, this was just so Currie can say he tried to make a splash hire. Nobody in that tier is coming here. Nobody

After the additional **** storm bungled hire we had today with Brohm I just want to say I retract my optimism expressed in the original post.

You literally cannot write comedy this epic.

This has to be the most incompetent administration in the history of D1 athletics.

Trying to keep the faith. But hope is sinking fast.
